Choosing a HAIRSTYLE!!

Recommended Posts

I am four mths from my wedding, and haven't chosen flowers, OR a hairstyle!! I have shoulder length hair, and was wondering if anyone here used extensions, and liked the way it came out?

I also love flowers in the hair, more of a sideswept updo, but have no clue if the salon at the resort where I'm going (secrets maroma beach) will be able to deliver what I want! Everyone on this forum who's gotten hitched had great hair! DIY, or did you bring someone down? Is it really possible to get what you want without ever consulting the person who will do your hair!?! The thought fills me with anxiety! I don't want a birdnest for a head!

For other brides to be, I've gone through every mag possible, but found really great hairstyles here! Also, they have some really cute flower pins!!

What's the deal, who's wearing what, and are you supposed to have a hair trial if you're going to have it done by someone else?

I had my hair done at the resort where I got married. Sorry not your resort so I can't help there. I too was anxious about what it would end up looking like but I gave the stylist 3 different pictures and she told me right then and there what she could and couldn't do. We talked about it and we agreed that she understood exactly what I wanted. While she was doing it she kept checking with me to make sure she was on the right track and it turned out better than I could've imagined. I'm so happy with how it looked!

So I just explained all that to try and calm your nerves a little bit aobut not having a hair trial. The resort offered one but I wanted to enjoy my time with my guests and limit wedding stuff to a minimum...but that was my choice. If you have a vision of what you want it to look like just make sure you bring pics for your stylist to give her an idea of what you're thinking of. Talk it out and everything should be great!

Oh - take into consideration the wind too! I wanted a 1/2 up 1/2 down do and am so happy I didn't do it in the end cause it would've been a mess with all the wind on the beach! My MOH decided to wear her hair down and regreted it in the end cause she's fixing her hair in all the pics!

Good luck! It'll all come together anyway so relax and don't worry about it! You can only do so much from this far away so just enjoy it!!

Thanks for the link!

Maybe you could have a trial the day you get to the resort so you can make sure your hair will be what you want?

I also agree with montegobay...take into consideration the wind. Even though I'd like my hair 1/2 up, 1/2 down, I'm going to go with it all up so it's not a mess in the pictures.

I totally share your hair fear. Living in NYC and having access to amazing stylists, the thought of having someone at a resort salon do my WEDDING hair fills me with dread.

I honestly thought about flying the hair and makeup artist down the same way I'm flying my photographer in. Then I found a person who is making me custom clip in hair extensions. For way cheaper than it would be to fly someone down. I pick them up on Monday!!

Right before the wedding she is going to style them and then ship them so that they don't wrinkle (or whatever it is hair would do during shipping) and then I will just clip them in for pre styled hair! There is enough hair so that it will completely cover most of my natural unstyled hair and I'll just have to do a simple half up do. It's super easy, she's been practicing with me!

I am also planning on a home hair trial w/ my regular stylist so I can take pictures to the MGM salon. Wish I could have taken her with me...At least if nothing else I have an idea in my head before I get to Vegas and have a hair panic attack

inspiredfyre, I'm getting married at SMB in a couple weeks. My hair is down to my mid back and I'm still trying to get some inspiration pics together to take down with me. That website you posted has a lot of pics. I'd like to have real flowers in my hair and I'll be wearing a veil.

I was going to have a trial at home but for $50-70 I figured it was too pricey.

I'll let you know how it goes with the resort stylist.

I'm planning on doing the same as Megashay - have my own stylist do a few different styles for me and take pictures down to the resort. I think a trial run before will help set your mind at ease if that's an option for you. I'm sure whatever you decide will look great :)

Wow. Thanks for all your great advice everyone! I didn't even THINK about the wind, that will definitely be a slight determining factor, thanks montegobay, I am feeling much more calm now that I see how easy it is to just have someone take pictures of various styles HERE, lol. Worst case scenario, i'll start practicing my own a little, just in case I need to fix something...i just keep thinking of what happened to simistar at the same resort i'm going to! I think I tend to get caught up in the what if's, i don't think of easy simple solutions! I need to do it smarter, not harder, and speaking of, NYCbridetobe, how does the prestyled custom hair extensions work? If it's relatively easy, i'll look into it! I don't want to have to keep touching my hair all night long, either! Did you buy them online?

Thanks guys, kee

I'm doing the trial and pictures at home like most of the other girls. But, my hairsylist is also a friend and invited to the wedding so hopefully she can come to Mexico!

As for extensions, my best friend just got married and there was a hair cut incident during her original trial a couple of weeks before the wedding. She ended up getting the clip in hair extensions from a wig shop and they were super easy to put in. Here are a couple of pics. I don't think you can even tell she has them in... and they stayed perfectly curled all night long!
