Chocolate Brides hair help

Recommended Posts

Hi latrice, I was at my friend's wedding at ROR last month and she got her hair done at Renova. She wanted a roller set also but they told her they don't do that there. But, they are experienced with all hair types and did a really good job. They used a hot iron to do an up-do with curls at the back, and the curls held up all night and looked great.

I have the roller set thing mastered. If you know how to set your own hair, you can perhaps set it yourself and use their hair dryer (so you don't have to pack your own) and have them pin it up or style it for you. My curls tend to stay longer when I set my hair.

Also, I read in one of my DW books that you should walk with your own products - shampoo, setting lotion, etc. This goes for make up too. Don't assume they have the products you want them to use.

As far as the humidity, Houston is a very humid place too. I was in a wedding last year and my stylist did a roller set and then when through each curl w/ a chi iron. Those curls were adorable and they lasted 3 or 4 days.

Hope this helps.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if I should bring my own products....I think they use Redken, which I've never used. Unfortunately, I don't know how to roller set my hair...my hair doesnt hold curls well at all, so a roller set would have worked best for me...

Do you have anyone in your family or someone you trust who could roller set your hair? If you do--you should do a test run before you go to jamaica and see how it works out.Its really not difficult--the hard part is spending all that time under the dryer! That way you can test out products to see which ones are going to work best for you (if you don't already know). I'm like you, curls DO NOT hold well in my hair. I have a lot of hair but its not very thick and curls never last more than 5 minutes in humidity! I am definitely doing a roller set--especially considering my hair will already be wet from swimming.I would take my own products if I were you or at least try out Redken before you go. I used Redken before and was not impressed. It didn't really seem tailored to black hair.

I think I am going to take my own products. I know what works good in my hair....Will I have to bring my own rollers? Or do they have those. When I asked Paula, she swore they did roller sets under the dryer, but from what I've heard here is that is not really the case.....I really need to find some pictures of styles I like. I feel so slack, I haven't even confirmed flowers... :-/

The trick for me is to use noodles. That's the only way Iknow how to set my hair. They come in several different colors. You roll your hair at an angle on them and bend them. I use Kera Care setting loating followed by foam wrap before setting my hair and the set lasts forever.

Try looking at essence.com for roller sets or google a celebrity and get pics from there if there are any that you like. Good luck.
