PSA: Auto insurance changes once you are a Mrs

So I had to call my insurance company to get a replacement card and had them change my name because I got married (7 months ago). Welll...since I am listed as married instead of single my rate dropped $120 over six months!

 

I thought I'd pass along for those of you who need to do this as it is something I never thought about. I missed out on the savings over the past 7 months. Unfortunately they won't retroactivate my savings but I'll take it now!!

Another great idea (that you might all know but I didn't!) is to combine INS with your hub. So you have your car(s) and home(s) on one policy. We just saved MUCHO money by doing that!

Yep. Another perk of being married. Both of us are saving $40/month a piece on our car insurance. Yay us!

Wow you girls are saving a bunch, mine went down $13 for 6 months. so a whole $26 a year in savings. NJ auto insurance sucks!

Our went down so much that mine is basically free. Like Matt used to pay $189/month and I paid $94/month, now we pay something like $164/month. So it's less then he was paying just for himself! And our homeowners insurance went down as well. We ended up saving alot!

 

Part of the savings comes from Matt had some speeding tickets on his license as well that just timed up, so his was about to go down anyway...

Carly you just reminded me that i never changed the homeowners insurance policy to us being married. I gotta do that.

FI and I did combine our auto policies and homeowners when we bought our house last year. And the autos combined were less than what I paid alone, and we got even better coverage.

hehe, love the perks!! my parents are auto insurance agents and were quick to remind me to do this ASAP!
