Thanks, Cnc. That's wonderful! 8 years and finally going to live in the same country. Soon, no more border crossings. Can't wait!

Ms325i - FYI - I asked the immigration office in the US if by having a lawyer will expedite the process and they said unfortunatley, no. I agree with the Fiance visa program as it is too complicated. I think we are also going to wait to receive the certificate to then be sponsored.

Good luck to you and your fiance.

New to this site and have received great ideas! Thanks!

As I am Canadian marrying an American living in separate countries- anyone else in the same vote?

What are your plans for the legalities regarding the civil ceremony? I learnt that in the DR, we will receive the marriage certificate 6 months after?! Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
I'm not in the same boat exactly, but definitely a similar one. I am American marrying a Mexican...because of immigration nightmares, we are actually doing just a religious ceremony in Mexico, then returning to the US and just doing a small legal ceremony before our AHR. Just an idea for you to ponder...i guess it really matters where you are going to live once married because it can take almost 9 months for immigration to change your residency, during which you cant work in the states!

Having a attorney won't necessarily get you your perm residence faster but we hope by using an experienced immigration attorney it will facilitate the process in terms of gathering the correct information, completion of forms etc, etc..I found a downtown firm called Niren & Associates that specializes in Canada to US immigration.
