How early did you begin planning?

It's never too early to start planning.

 

Start looking at places now to get a rough estimate of what costs would be (of course anything priced now is more than likely going to slightly higher a year or 2 later). At least it will give you an idea anyway.

 

I started planning pretty much right after the engagement. I was engaged in March 2008 and my wedding is this November (so a little over 1.5 years I had to plan... and believe me time went by quickly).

I started planning a little over a year ahead of time. But I honestly only planned for about 6 months total. I took a lot of time off during the year!

Some people have been planning since they were 12 years old. I'm not one of them I understand your lack of funds issue also. Right now, even a destination wedding seems to be difficult.
