Just out of curiosity?

Do guys still go and ask Dad's about marrying their daughters? I don't mean literally ask but have some kind of conversation with the females parent/parents, mine are divorced. I'm wondering because FI has not just yet, although he said he wants to. I'm wondering is he nervous and really doesn't want to or is he procrastinating as usual. One of my male friends said guys don't communicate the same as females, which I agree, and maybe he doesn't know what to say. Then again maybe it's just hard for me to see anyone being nervous about talking to my father knowing how humble my father is. I guess because of the respect I have for my father and our relationship I think FI should have some kind of conversation with him regarding marrying me. What are your thoughts or experience?

My DH spoke to both my parents and his prior to asking me. We've been living togehter for years but he still honored tradition in this small way. So, they all saw my ring before I did...it kind of spoiled some of the "surprise" but I thought it was really nice and my dad appreciated the nod to tradition.

My FI didn't formally ask. We had been dating for 8 years and had talked about the engagement with both sets of our parents together, but no formal "permission." If you think he should ask, even out of formality, you should.

My fiance talked to both my dad and my stepdad before he proposed. He didn't ask permission per say(which I am glad because I have always believed it is my choice ya know?) but he asked for their blessing. It was a sign of respect for him to talk to my family about it. I was so shocked, more so that he had gone to them both and I didn't know about it then the fact that he was proposing!

I was so impressed because he has only met my dad once(dad and stepmom live in a different state) yet he made sure to call my dad and talk to him about it:)
