Stag n' Doe - to have, or not to have?

Recommended Posts

We are not having an AHR, so I think we may have some type of Buck 'n Doe / Jack 'n Jill party. I have several friends and cousins, aunts and uncles that will not be able to attend the wedding, so this will be a nice way for them to party with us! Also, I think it's a nice way for those going to the wedding to get to know eachother a little better beforehand. I don't think we'll be charging money to get in... unless it is just to cover the cost of alcohol and/or food for the night. If people want to give us gifts or money, that is up to them -- we will not blatantly be trying to raise money for the wedding.

I definitely say if its popular in your area, DO IT!!  No one will complain about a great night out with good food, drinks, and a chance to catch up with people you may not have seen in a while. Its a great way to make everyone a part of this special time in your life.

Candice - I'd love to hear about some of the things that worked well (and didn't) for your stag & doe. Tips are always welcome!! lol.  Did you and your hubby plan your own or did you wedding party do that for you?

Friends and family will want to support you and share in all parts of your wedding. I say go for it..and you can even make it mexican theme. If you want some great ideas that worked and some that didn't let me know. Good luck! :)

I don't think it would be tacky and definitely think you should go for it, especially if they are popular in your area and/or you know you will have enough friends/family/acquaintances to make a good nite (nothing worse than booking a hall and only have a handful of people in it) then go for it.  S&Ds are fun and yes you will probably make some money for the couple because many people are happy to and want to support the couple (by way of purchasing drinks, raffle tickets, games etc), especially if they won't be at your DW.

We were on the fence about having one but our friends have convinced us we definitely should - even if it is not the traditional social evening event, so we may do a pig roast or something like that.

I'm not having a stag and doe, mainly because I'd feel weird asking people to come out and support us with money when half of them can't even afford to go. Actually, I feel weird in general asking people to give us money for our wedding as I feel like that's our responsibility. But everyone's situation is different and you need to do what's best for you as a couple, as well as for your guests/families.

I've never heard of this concept until now! Sounds like a fun idea, why can't you just have a stag & doe party, but without asking guests to contribute with monetary gifts? If you want those who can't make it to your DW to be a part of celebrating, you can still have a get together men & women and just have a great time! I'm assuming this defeats the purpose of this type of party, but if you don't want poeple to feel like they have to give you something just call it a home reception.

The purpose of a stag and doe is generally to raise money for the bride and groom to either help pay for their wedding or help start their lives together. I think if you're weren't collecting money it'd be more like...an engagement party? At least every stag and doe I've been has been to raise money, maybe it's different elsewhere.
