Stupid Cats

So the background is that I had 2 cats and FI had 2 cats (we both lived in tiny apartments and cats were a better option than dogs). We moved in together and now we have a zoo. 4 cats is crazy and one of mine just started hating one of his. He thinks his cat is the princess (god help us when we have girls) and does nothing wrong, although she is a total instigator. Anyways, mine always chases and bites her. It has gotten so bad that the one being chased won’t even use the litter box. And now for the second time in a month, she has been bitten and its gotten infected (both times). That’s another $80 vet bill and her getting hurt is just something that I don’t want to deal with. We have tried everything to make them like each other… discipline, rubbing both of them with the same towel, re-introducing them, separating their food/water/etc. but nothing works! Total sadness, but I think one of them is going to have to go live somewhere else. FIs mom offered to take his, but why can’t they just get along

Awwhh that really sucks but it's a big reality for a lot of people. Has your vet given you any suggestions on this issue? I do not have cats!

awwww what a sin ( im sad for you. how long has this been, sometimes cats take a while, sometimes up to a year, to adjust.

 

also do you have 2 litter boxes? that might help with the peeing?

That's so sad. I have a cat and cannot imagine giving her away to anyone in the same situation, but it sounds like you've tried very hard. Can they live in separate parts of the house somehow (I know not ideal, but just trying to brainstorm). At least a family member has offered to take one in, but I hope you find another solution that keeps your cats with both of you.

We've all lived together for about 10 months and the whole hate thing started about 2 months ago. We've got 2 litter boxes and tried to keep them apart, but mine can open doors so unless we lock them its no use. Hopefully the vet will have some other ideas when we take her in today. I feel like such a bad cat mom.

aw dont feel bad.... i wonder why it just started though, the last 2 months, hmmm. wait it out, maybe it will pass and see what the vet thinks too. how will u decide what one has to go? omg i'd be so upset, trying to choose.

I have 4 cats too but they all manage to get along. Don't give up yet! They have feline calming sprays that you plug in like a GLAD air freshener and spray ons too. If you google you will find tons of sites, look for ones that offer guarantees. I almost had to go this route but my cat had a medical issue that was causing her to be aggressive. Once we addressed that everything calmed down, and I had a cat peeing in plants and it turned out the dog that lived in our house before us left his scent around and it pissed my cat off so I looked into the sprays and found some good ones. My cat peeing in the plant area went away when the previous owners dog scent went away.

 

I know this sounds weird but have you tried the Dog Whisper way? I have established my self as the "dominant" in our and family and it really works. Good luck keep us posted!!!

In our house, we swear by Feliway, the cat pheromone plug in that Preciousmi811 referred to in her post.

 

We took in a stray cat (some jerk kicked him out!), and he tried to show our sweet angel kitty from heaven, Darla, that he was the boss. He was a good cat, he just tried to dominate.

 

I read books and did research and found this Feliway plug in. It can get pricey because you have to constantly refill it, but it is sooo worth it. Our cats cuddle now and groom each other. We can also tell when it wears out because he starts fighting with her again.

Thanks girls! Just got back from the vet and he says we are doing the right stuff and just need to be patient. We had the pheromone you spray and the one you put in their drinking water so I guess we now we'll try the plug in one too! Thanks for being so supportive

Kitty Prozac.

 

Seriously. My male cat went through this stage when he was about 2 years old. He was very aggressive to the point of doing harm with my older female cats. So we (with the advice and care of our vet) put him on prozac for a while. It worked great, it's really cheap, like $10 a month and after a while we were able to take him off and everything is fine.
