Dress shopping alone?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all of the advise. I was dreading dress shopping until I saw what everyone said about it. Now I really excited thanks to all of your feed back. I love shopping alone for many of the same reasons mentioned. I think I am going to print a list of shops to hit up and go for it. I cant wait!!! I will sneak some pics and post. Thanks again for helping like always. wink.gif

I went alone. One the one hand, you don't have to deal with too many opinions, but it also made me kinda sad and crazy. I picked my favs, and then my sister flew in to help me. She cried when I put on the dress that became "the one." It was my fav, and her tears confirmed it.

My first dress shopping experience I went alone and I highly recommend it. I had 1-on-1 time with the lady helping me and it worked out perfectly. I found 1 dress that stood apart from the rest, but she didn't pressure me to buy it that day because she knew I wanted to bring back my mom to see it. It was fun, efficient, and low pressure.

i haven't bought my dress yet either, but i have been to 4 different shops. 3 i went with my mom and the salesgirls all said they think it's better to go with one person instead of a big entourage like you see on 'say yes to the dress'. i did go to a store alone and it wasn't bad, it was kinda nice actually. i forgot the camera though so i couldn't get any pics of me in the dresses i tried on. good thing is that place is by my work so i might go again on my lunch break so i can show someone. if you do go alone just bring the camera, it really helps when you can keep track of the different dresses you liked to reference later on.

good luck!

It's actually a great idea. I took my moh out with me twice, but when I went shopping by myself, I found my dress and bought it without a second opinion (I also saved $400 and didn't pay crazy NYC sales tax). It's just easier to concentrate and I could take my time and not worry about other people being impatient, or how long I was taking (at least 2 hours, ha). Just make sure you have an idea of what you like- I did tons of web browsing before I even stepped foot in a bridal salon. Also I'm glad that it'll be a surprise for everyone including my mom :)

I think going by yourself and figuring out what you like will be more enjoyable and relaxing. It seems like when there are other opinions you (or at least I) tend to listen to them over my own opinion. Once you have it narrowed down it will be enjoyable for everyone to help you find the one! Good luck!

Not crazy at all. I did the same thing about 2 weeks before I went with my BMs so I knew what to expect.

I was so glad I did because I was nervous about it and by the time I was 'serious' I knew how to behave and what to say. Plus I knew not to wear thong underwear cause someone would be looking at your butt! Ooops.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

I went by myself first also and I loved it! It was much easier to try on a ton of dresses that I liked because there was no one saying that they didn't like it. You can always have someone go with you when you need to narrow it down. I ended up having my FMIL and FSIL go with me for the final decision and I am glad I did. I find that it was more relaxing that I had already gone through some of it and now they were just there to help me decide on the final one. It is overwhelming to have people start from the beginning.
