Are you paying for your bridesmaids dresses?

Recommended Posts

We will be paying for all our bridesmaid dresses, shoes, jewellery etc and the outfits for all the groomsmen. I personally haven't ever had to pay for my own dress when I have been part of a wedding party.

I'm having my girls n guys pay for their own stuff, we are not expected 2 pay for their stuff. At least not around here we aren't. With all the expense I can't even think about paying for their stuff. Also, we r getting married on embarkation day on our cruise so most of my girls are not coming along for the week all they have 2 do is drive 1 1/2 hrs 2 the ship.

We paid for our wedding party's attire, gave them gifts let them know 2 years in advance of our wedding. So the people that stood in our wedding didn't pay any extra than a regular guest would have.  No one in our bridal party gave us a card or gift.  Which I know they paid a great deal to travel but at least get us a card we went out of our way to buy attire, shoes, jewelry, monogrammed Champagne flutes,  accessories that they can wear again and again not to mention their welcome bags filled with items Cups, flip flops, sunglasses, etc.... I have always paid for my own bridesmaid dresses and shoes outfits that I will never have a use for again (i.e. satin heels dyed purple with rhinestones) My girls had sundress with straw wedges. Our groomsmen we gave chucks.  If I had to do it again I would only get the basic gifts that i was given for standing i.e. the monogrammed champagne flute. My effort definitely went unappreciated.

this thread is making me feel bad.. i paid for my 6 bridesmaid's dresses which were over 300!  on top of that, got them a gift, plus paying for their makeup on the wedding day.. I figured they were spending so much to come, I should make it as easy as possible for them.  I'm going to be broke after this wedding!
Wow! How lucky are they!? That's very generous of you!

I know right! I wish I was a bridesmaid under those conditions haha, I would travel to the end of the world :).

Don't feel bad though, I'm sure they really appreciated that you did all that for them.

That's really unfortunate. I think at that point I would turn into a total bridezilla and tell them that if they can't come they won't be able to be in the wedding because I just can't afford it. Last time I checked, no one puts a gun to their head to be in the bridal party. Maybe that's a bit mean but I have no tolerance for high maintenance people haha.

We are paying for the dresses for the girls, along with shoes, etc.  I am not paying for hair or make-up.  I figured because we are asking them to travel, I will pay for the dresses.

Though I have always paid for my own dresses, hair etc in the past.  I was in 4 weddings within 4 months of each other a few years ago and I about went broke being in the weddings.
