As another mom (and a behavior specialist), I think it is very hard to give up control, but the day is about you and your fiance. I would not give a lot of attention to the fact she is not going as this is probably for attention. I would simply tell her you want her there and give a few options and responsibilities. You're not going to change your wedding plans, so when that is realized hopefully it will work out! Congratulations!

Congrats and welcome! My parents and future in laws were the same way. While this is both of our second weddings we do want our parents there. Both of us said we wanted destination weddings! Our decision was to have a wedding on board a ship in port so family and friends could attend and then sail off with whoever wanted to come with us. This may not be ideal for everyone, but I hope it works for us! We will know in Feb 2010.

Congrats and welcome!! PM me and I can send you lots of info on Beaches Negril - we're getting married there in May 2010. I have some beautiful pictures, and some great info.

And I wouldn't stress about it too much. As long as she is in good health and can physically make the trip, I have a feeling she'll come around. It seems like almost everyone on this forum has experienced the same problem to some degree - in my case it was FMIL. Keep talking to her about all of the positives and about how this is what you and your FI really want and hopefully she'll start to see things your way.

Congratulations and Welcome! If you go through the boards you will see many of us have our difficulties with family members not wanting to come. You aren't alone and I hope you can convince your mother to come!
