Electronic Invitations? Feedback Please?

SO many people have said that this is tacky, that it's sad, because people like to get things in the mail, etc.. but I think it is a GREAT idea!! As you said, it's GREEN, which is RAD, they are unlikely to get lost! (stored safely in your inbox) and fun and different!

 

Esp. since your FH is a web designer I say go for it!!

I've received one e-invite in the past and I thought it was tacky (sorry, just being honest). I don't know why, normally I am very much "do what you want" but I didn't like the idea of the e-vite. However I think an e-RSVP is fine and makes more sense then mailing an RSVP card.

I think it is a great idea -- I would be doing this if I didn't have so many web-challenged people (i.e. my parents & their relatives). My cousin is doing his wedding with electronic invitations, and I thought it was cool. Their website is so sweet and personal. And to be honest, even after sending the STD out, I'm getting emails and calls anyway, so it's almost as if it doesn't make a difference anyway. However, since others have brought it up, you should check with your parents / grandparents (if they are contributing) to get their take on it.

I soooooooo wanted to do this for our AHR, but my Mother looked at me like I needed to committed to a funny farm, so alas, I sent paper invitations with an electronic RSVP and note to visit our web site for more information. That's where we put directions to the venue, link to online-only registry (she wasn't going to talk me out of that) and to various places to stay overnight if required, etc. If I had it to do over again, I think I'd send the evite so I say go for it!

I'm going to send out my invites. They are green! Handmade plantable stationery - favors, invitations and paper that grow beautiful wildflowers BUT, i'm not doing a wedding website. I'm not that computer savoy....lol So do you think it's ok, not tacky, to send a rsvp card in the invites that just has my email address as the rsvp?

Lite- do you have a wedding website? I know a lot of people have just directed people to RSVP on their website and it saves the RSVP card hassle. As a guest, I prefer this method too because I'm lazy and I never fill out RSVP cards on time. I open the invite...oooh and ahhh then forget about the card.

 

ETA- oh and sometimes bumping an old thread with your own question might not get as many opinions because people tend to read the first post only.... even if it's from 2006! I'd suggest doing a forum search about RSVP ideas. This subject has probably been discussed a ton and I'm sure you will even find alternative ideas you might not have thought of. Good luck!

Ahh i guess your right i should have checked the date. I hate having multiple threads of the same questions, so i figured i'd pick one that was closest to what i was asking/looking for.

I would consider doing a combo. Save the Dates Electronically and see how those go. Based on the reaction do your invites accordingly.

 

I always fear that people won't see the invite in the mess of emails or respond or somthing along those lines. I am a bit jaded because I work with emarketing and many times things are spammed, blocked, or overlooked.

 

I love the idea of e-vites but you should tailor to your guests because everyone will respond differently and the last thing you want to do is send e-vites and have to call everyone anyways because guests didn't rsvp online or however.

I tried this in the beginning and nobody really responded. Plus some of my family members wanted formal invites sent out so that is what I did. If you are set on doing it online I would go to Walmart or Michaels and get some of the cheap invitations that you print yourself and send these out to the older people.

We did paper STD and electronic evites. Looking back, what was I thinking doing paper STD The evite was so easy, and so quick! Not a soul complained about not having a paper invite and we received a few comments from those who thought that the evite idea was awesome (as it was "green"). We used pingg.com for the RSVP - it's free and easy. You can use your own image (free for that too). We also sent a PDF invite alongside the RSVP URL. Let me know if you have questions!
