Natural Family Planning anyone?

So we had our Catholic marriage prep course yesterday and they tried to talk us all into NFP. I'd heard of it before, but didn't really know much about it. I know they preach it to Catholics but I have heard of non-Catholics doing it as well because of how accurate it is supposed to be.

Has anyone tried it or know someone who has? The thing that most appeals to me is that I wouldn't have to be on birth control pills...I hate what they do to my body and it would be nice to save $500 a year on pills!

I'd love to get your thoughts.

While TTC we used our basal body temp and charting to find out when our fertile period was. Which would be what you would do to avoid your fertile period. It works really great. I don't know how much you know about charting or about looking for fertile symptoms but if you want to know more I will be happy to answer any questions.I know a lot of girls use this to TTC and TTA (trying to avoid)

I've heard of people doing it... and the people who have have gotten pregnant... I'm not sure if they just weren't super strict about it or what... but keep in mind, you're most "in the mood" during your most fertile time naturally.

awesome thanks girls...Edrosa - natural family planning is a form of birth control without using the actual pills, IUD, shot, etc....key word is natural I think...really don't know anything about it thats why I wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

I definitely wouldn't want to start till after the wedding but I would just be nervous to trust myself in not getting pregnant as we don't want to for a year or so.

It really boils down to whether you want to have a baby or not and when...sure, you can chart and have it be successful for a while...but then there could be an oops when you're both in the mood and you'll end up pregnant which may or may not be the right time for you...say you start after you get married and you'd both be fine if you just so happen to get pregnant, then great!! If it's something you both want to hold off on for a while, then I wouldn't suggest it. Like I said, sex just happens whenever, lol. Good luck with whatever route you choose :)
