Advice on what to consider BEFORE signing contract

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am soon to sign my contract with the Barcelo -- I just wanted any advice from anyone on things they negotiated before signing the contract.

For example, someone mentioned the external photographer, so I will call and discuss that tonight before signing.

but now I am all stressed that there are other things I should consider before signing...

What did people talk about before signing? Did they have things written in about receptions/welcome dinners/set up etc. Right now, my contract only discusses the room blocks...

Thanks for any advice!

I negotiated a lower deposit on room block then what the resort originally wanted. So, you might want to consider that. Also, I don't know if it is an AI or not, but my resort is trying to increase the food prices on me by over 8%, so you might want to consider seeing if they will include a guaranteed (sp?) food price/set-up fee for you. ....just something I learned after the fact. hope it helps!

It sounds like it's just a room block contract then with the hotel. Ask the WC there onsite (via email or a phone call) if they're sending you a wedding contract as well. With our wedding at Dreams, we just are booked/confirmed to have our wedding there on the date we specified and selected a package but didn't sign anything for it, I don't believe they do that. We're ironing out details about the extras through emails and depending on what your hotel's policy on outside vendors (photographer, videographer, cake, florist, or any other service you happen to find and like outside of the hotel's providers). All in all, I'd suggest asking your WC about all of these details and make sure they can be flexible with them.

Hello Margaret!

I love Barcelo but as all the big resorts there are good and bad things.

I do not know if you have signed yet but just make sure about Plan B in case of rain. Once you have signed just make sure thay they will respect prices & rates that may increase.

I worked at Barcelo Maya Beach & garden as a Groups & Conventions Manager 6 years ago and use to have more than 4 weddings per day so try to be the first one or the last one.

Regards and good luck!
