I also have a large Jamaican family and many of my relatives will be coming from Kingston. However FI is American and has a large family also so we have many people the US also. I'm leaning towards Montego Bay and the Half Moon resort bc it's gorgeous. However in all the times I've been to JA i've never been to MoBay only to Ochi, Kingston, etc. I've heard that Negril has the best beaches but that's too far from the airport (which was the main reason in picking MoBay) Can anyone tell me what they thought of MoBay? Beaches? Ride from the airport?

I am having the same issue. My fiance is from Ochie. I really like RIU Ocho Rios, but am very nervous about the 80% rule. Does anyone know what the minimum night stay is to be considered part of the 80%? I looked into Tropical Weddings, they were very nice, but a little out of my price range. Any suggestions in the Ochie area would be appreciated. I like some of the places in Negril, but it may get expensive getting all of his family to and from Negril from Ochie? Thanks guys!

MoBay is beautiful, , the beaches are beautiful and the ride from the airport is beautifulcheer2.gif No seriously, the ride is about 15-30 depending on the hotel, nothing major. I stayed at Secrets in April, they had a private beach, but mostly all beaches in Jamaica are great.

I'm using Wedding Planner Plus. I found her to be more affordable than Tropical Weddings. If you haven't found anyone yet, you can try them. I had the same problem with his family being from Jamaica and my family being from Cayman and US. I didn't have enough people for the 80% rule. I think the minimum is 3 nights but not 100% sure. I looked at so many places that I have them quite jumbled in my head. :)

You can also try Dawn from Jamaica Elegant Weddings. She has some locations that you can use that are offsite. Another bride Sokonie posted about her experience with her. She had her wedding at the Rose hall and then went offsite for her reception.

Not a Jamaica bride but just stopping by to say hello! Jamaica is a gorgeous island with beautiful beaches all over- you can't go wrong. The only reason I didn't plan to get married there was because it we wanted to choose a neutral location.
