Should I change my venue from EDR?!

Recommended Posts

I think I'm having my first wedding planning dilemma....My wedding is currently set for April 23, 2008 at EDR, but I'm having serious thoughts to change it. Maybe I'm just fired up about finding out that in order to bring an outside photographer, we have to pay EDR $500 or a two-night stay for the photog. But I just don't think that's right - especially since we will be bringing in at least 40 guests!! But I've heard such great things about EDR that maybe I should just suck it up. If we do decide to change, what are the comparable resorts in RM or Cancun? I would hate to have to start all over again, though!

Ahh NOOOOO!... get the best of both worlds!!

EDR is by far my favourite resort... it's SO amazing. I've said it so many times on this forum - if I didn't have children at my wedding, I would have had mine at EDR.

The $500 fee has come up a few times - ask Matt Adcock, he'll tell you to fight it, and I couldn't agree more. Apparently there is a loophole to this fee - just simply add your photographer to your guestlist and there is nothing the resort can do about it!

Oh, we're going to fight it, believe me. But your words of encouragement about sticking with EDR b/c I love it have helped. I do know that another bride who is having her wedding there is doing the guestlist thing. That's probably the route that we will go, too, but I'd be horrified if we did that and then our photographer would get kicked out on the day of our wedding! But thanks for the encouragement and information - it's very helpful!

Well, what are they going to do if one of your "guests" decides to take pictures??! There are no rules about guests taking pictures, or the type of cameras they are allowed to use, are there?! Honestly, what could they possibly do?

EDR is a gorgeous resort - IMHO, I wouldn't give up on it if I were you.

If you decide on a firm plan on having your wedding at the EDR, make sure you fight the holy hell out of this stupid policy. If they can't offer an photographer that is worthwhile, then why pay a penalty for substandard service (or lack of service).

On another hand, Out of a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest) of resorts I have been to in the RM, I give the EDR a 2.

The beach plain sucks there. Big time. There are many other amenities about EDR that are super sweet... I'm a beach lover and have been to too many places that made my jaw drop in the RM.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, please please be a candidate in the fight against EDR and their sister resorts to punt this $500 fee out the window. If you do decide to relocate, you are the best example to get out there and make it known to Lomas Travel, EDR management staff (WC included), and any travel agency or any other coordinators that the ridiculous penalty has steered you in another direction. we must do this 1 voice at a time!

thanks for supporting the foundation of fighting the fee no matter what :)

Cheers & best of luck with your plans,

matt

Definitely fight, but, I think from what I've heard that that is common at most resorts, so I would not change just because of that...

So far, only the Grand Palladium that I know of allows outside photographers... Actually, I dont' really know much about it, but I know that all of the resorts I was considsering, except for the Grand Palladium, had the no outside vendors rule...
