symbolic wedding question

Recommended Posts

You don't need any documentation to do a symbolic/vow renewal ceremony in Mexico. In fact, we're doing ours after the fact because FH feels strongly about the first time we say our vows be during a religious ceremony with our own vows-not "in front of some judge in a robe":)

The only thing the resorts care about is that you understand the vow renewal/symbolic ceremony is not legally binding. They want you fully aware that in the eyes of the law, it doesn't count. So we'll do it there where it counts to US, then back here at the courthouse the week after we get home.

I heard that some resorts do not require a cert for a symbolic ceremony but just to make sure that we have no problems we are doing a legal ceremony before we fly out. My wed date is 11/10/09 and our legal day will be 8/7/09 we are giving ourselves some time to receive our cert so we have proof in case the resort requests it. Good Luck

so... here's a question.

My father is a Canadian minister, legally able to perform weddings in canada. Now, will it still be a legal ceremony if we file for all the paperwork at home, fly the legal documents out to whereever, sign them during the symbolic ceremony, and file them when we get home?

Cause I really want him to do the ceremony, but I think my family will have a problem with us signing all the paperwork beforehand and just doing a ceremony at our destination... And its not like we can keep it on the downlow or anything, as my father is the minister...

Sorry B - I didn't read your post (only the first couple).

It all depends on what your marriage license requires. In Arizona you only need to sign the paper and send it back, so we just made sure everyone signs and dates the paper when you are in the US. You may be able to do the same thing in Canada. Ask your dad. He probably knows.

So what does the symbolic ceremony look like?? Do they still do the thumb stamp or the pouring of the sand?? And u still exchange rings and all that right....
