ROR vs. MoBay vs. Ritz-Carlton

Recommended Posts

Hey yall!!!

My wedding date is set for 10/16/2010 in Jamaica! However, I am still deciding on the location.

Can you hear the airplanes flying by in at the Riu Montego Bay location? And is it that noticeable?

How does everyone like the Riu Ocho Rios location?

And what about the Ritz-Carlton, Montego Bay location? Did anyone plan their weddings there and how was that experience?

The Ritz Carlton is considered five star and not in the same category as the RIUS. So depending on how much your budget is, I would definitely go for the RC if given the choice. If considering a more upscale RIU, then try the RIU Palace, otherwise the RIU-MB is pretty much the same as the ROR, however the ROR is much bigger. The RIU MB is closer commute to the airport and quite frankly, the planes were not that big of a deal. Trip Advisor would have you thinking that it was a HUGE problem. Most days you did not even hear the planes after the first day or so. Good luck

1sunshine- Thanks for the info... I want to have my wedding in Jamaica--- I actually just got an email from the wedding coordinator and i thought that i would share...

There isn’t a separate site fee for the ceremony; the ceremony package covers the set up and rental fee. There is however a site fee for the reception. These fees start at $1000 up to $2500 depending on the location you have selected for the reception.

We have started to receive requests for 2011, and have already confirmed a few wedding dates.

To secure the date a deposit of $2500 is required along with a signed event agreement.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Carla

You don't hear planes at the Ritz Carlton. In addition to site fees which they will work with you on, they do charge set up fees as well. The fees are not insubstantial. We were pretty surprised at how much on top of the food, tax and gratuity, showed up in our estimate.

I would have loved to plan my wedding at the RC but their prices were out of my budget. If that's not an issue for you then that would be a great place to have it. Of all the places that I e-mailed to get info from (and there were A LOT, lol), the RC's coordinator was the most responsive, which makes me think that you would get some good individual attention during your planning. The RIU's are really popular and have several weddings per day, so their WC's are generally busy and can be hard to get a hold of. But then again, their prices are more affordable.

The pics of the RC reception venues look beautiful...the WC told me $1K for the Lawn, $2K for the Terrace (my fav) and $2.5K for the Ballroom (I think the beach was $1.5K but not sure). That's in addition to the fee for the ceremony which I believe is $2K. Their menu options are excellent. You can choose from several different plated and buffet menus, and you can also have carving stations set up.
