Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your dogs encounter! That's so scary... I would be very upset if something happened to our lab/retriever mix. You're right, you never know how much you love your animals until they're in danger.

I have two dogs, a 4-yr old Lab/Doberman mix and a 2-yr old Beagle mix. The house I am renting does not have a fenced-in backyard, so I put them on tie-outs to let them go outside and do their business and play around outside (they are inside dogs). Well, the FI and I had just finished up dinner and put the dogs outside for a while. They started barking like they normally do and my FI stepped outside to tell them to be quiet. A little while later, their barking got more intense, so I went outside to see what was going on.

There is a hilly, wooded area behind the house and they were barking in that direction, but I couldnâ€t see what was out there. I called the dogs and they wouldnâ€t come, so I started pulling on their tie-out cords to get them back towards the house. I called out to my FI to help me get them in the house. As he pulled them towards the house, a large German Shepherd came out of the wooded area towards the house. The dog acted like he wanted to come in the house and seemed like a friendly dog. My FI got the dogs in the house and me, being the dog lover that I am, took a closer look at the dog to see if it had any tags on it (it had a collar, but no tags). The back door was still slightly open.

At that point, my Lab mix ran back out of the house barking at the German Shepherd and the dog jumped on my dog and had her by the neck on the ground. He shook her a couple of times and would not let go. My Lab mix started squealing in pain and at that point, I thought my dog was going to die right there in front of me. So, not thinking of my own safety, I ran over to them and tried to pull my dog from the German Shepherdâ€s mouth while hitting the German Shepherd with my free hand. I ended up dragging the both of them about 20 feet to my back door trying to pull my dog from the other dogâ€s mouth. Keep in mind, my dog weighs about 70 lbs, so I know the German Shepherd weighed more than that. Itâ€s amazing what adrenaline will do to you. I am still sore from that evening. My FI had run in the house to find something to hit the dog with because he was not letting go and my dog was still squealing. My FI had to hit the dog about 5 times with the security bar from my back door before he finally let go of my dogâ€s neck. I felt so bad about having to hit the dog, but I did not want my dog to die.

I checked my dog out once we were all in the house and she seemed to be fine, besides being shaken up but she wasnâ€t bleeding. I knew I was attached to my dogs, but I didnâ€t know how much until I thought I was going to lose one of them. I was so afraid to let them outside alone after that. I was sort of thankful that I would be leaving on a two-week trip in two days and the dogs would be safe at the kennel while I am gone (itâ€s a doggy day care and they love it there). Well, the next day, I noticed that one of her eyes was bloodshot and swollen, where it is supposed to be white. So, I took her to the vet to get checked out. They said that the pressure on her neck caused the blood vessels in her eye to burst. They said it will heal fine and prescribed her some ointment and pain pills. I dropped them off at the kennel later that day. Then I left on my trip the next morning (which was yesterday). I have not been able to get those images out of my mind. My dogs are my babies. I donâ€t know how I will feel when I get back home as far as letting them outside alone. My FI says they will be fine and that dog is not coming back. But, I donâ€t know if that German Shepherd belonged to someone in the neighborhood or if it just wandered into the neighborhood. I canâ€t really fence in the backyard since I donâ€t own the house. Weâ€ll see how I feel in a couple of weeks. Sorry for the long post and I know itâ€s not wedding related, just had to vent a little bit. Most of my friends donâ€t understand my attachment to my dogs since they donâ€t have pets. Thanks for listening.
Oh your poor puppies!!!!! i would have done the same thing...i've had dogs in the past and have cats now - they are like my children. but you are very lucky that German shepherd didn't attack you!!!! I hope your babies are ok!

I'm very well known for comparing my dog to other people's children so I can completely relate to how protective you must have been feeling!! You're right that it's very surprising how much power you can have through adrenaline and not surprising that you're sore now a day or two later as a result. I don't think I would have considered the other dog attacking me at all if I was defending my dog (or cats of course, but they mostly stay inside so I don't think of them being attacked).

I'm glad to hear that you're safe and that despite some minor injury your pooch will be alright as well. That's the first important thing. The second is that I would try to make sure that you continue to keep your dogs around other dogs frequently over the next few months so that she doesn't get too scared off and fear being attacked by every other dog it sees. As much as you're worrying about her at the kennel because you're not nearby, its actually probably a good thing for her mental recovery right now. I used to work with a dog rescue and often times we'd see dogs come in that had previously had negative encounters with other dogs, such as attacks, and in turn they became fearful or aggressive themselves. Don't be scared that it will be an automatic response by your dog or anything, just be a little more relaxed that having her in the company of other dogs while you're away right now is a healthy thing for her :)

Oh- Shortnsweet- you just described one of my worst nightmares! I don't worry too much about our big guy because even though he's super gentle he's so big that a lot of dogs are afraid of him but our smaller (65 pound) girl was attacked once when FI was walking her. FI had to kick the other dog to get it away from her- he felt really badly but what can you do? Before we bought our house we rented a house without a fenced in yard and I was always a bit nervous about other dogs, or even kids picking on her. The dogs never got to go outside for long until we got them a fenced yard, poor things.

I'm so glad your dog is okay. My dogs and cat are like my children too, so I understand what you mean. My Saint Bernard got pneumonia when he was a puppy and had a close call and I was an absolute wreck while he was at the vet. I totally understand where you're coming from- they're so dependent on us and they trust us so much that it makes you feel so protective of them.

OMG, Shortnsweet!!!!!!!!! So sorry to hear you had to go through that! It's every pet owners worst nightmare, and I think everyone would have reacted the same way, animal lover or not. When protective instinct kicks in there's not much stopping us!

We don't have any animals now, but we're both huge animal lovers, and have had cats and dogs, so I can totally understand your reaction! Now we're just kicked into overdrive pshyco over protectiveness with having a kid! lol

Glad to hear that your pup will be oK in the end, and I agree with Meghan, I think doggy daycare is the bEst thing for her right now! Does your doggy daycare have a webcam that you can peek in on?

Hope you all recover well from this incident, and any vent wedding related or not is welcome here, remember we are the most chattiest bunch!! :o)

Hey guys!!

So I did my boudoir session yesterday, it was so much fun. All I can say is,to bad it was only a half hour session.. I can't imagine what we could have done with a lot more time.

My make up and hair turn out to dye for!!!! I wasn't nervous at all when I finally met the photographer (I had 1 glass of wine and 1 shot before meeting up with her, so I was totally relaxed, definitely helped I would suggest going with out any!)

All the lingerie turned out to be perfect, I should have bought just a nice push up bra to have a shot like that also(would have been real sexy)

The poses were real basic, the typical once you see in photos. I did one with laying on the bed legs in the air, crossed on the ankles, I just looked straight while she was behind taking a pic, I regret not looking back at her, as it would have been a nice pic to see my face, but again I haven't seen them so I am sure she would have ask me to look at her if she felt it was needed. I am very excited to get the pics in the mail next week. I'll keep you all posted on that and post a little teaser.

I am so sorry about your court date Michele, especially since it was pushed back, instead of getting it over with you have to continue waiting, the annoying and stressful part. Pls keep us posted on how it goes.

Erin, I am so you also have to go to court, especially for a reason like that. Why do people have to make things so diffuclt!!! why wouldn't she want his daughter to see her father get married. So messed up, sorry you guys even have to go through such stress. Pls let us know how it goes and if his daughter can go!

Shortnsweet,

OMG I am so sorry you and your poor dog and to go through that, I am so happy to hear his ok though. Aww my heart goes out to you so much, that must have been so scary. I can relate in a lot of ways with my dog that had passed away.

Thank you for the comment on my cake topper!! not as nice as Erins lol with the dog in it, soo cute!

I think the whole room thing is being fix, they called the FI and said they found a deluxe room, they booked in, now they are just get the paper work together to send us the new invoice,I will see.. I am not sure how much to trust them. For now I'll consider it good news!! :) :) once I get the new invoice I'll be completely relieved.

But I also called Air Transit, the plan we are flying with, to upgrade to get more luggage allowance, and they said my flight # doesn't exists!!! OMG... what next.. oh yes I bought my docking system.. worked great 3 times, no it doesn't work anymore.

Can I elope from my destination wedding?!? lol I wish I could sometimes.

Isn't it crazy the amount of money Quebec charges to change names, don't worry your not alone, no one else has ever heard to have to pay to change their names. Stupid Quebec and their weird laws. For instance, our high school is up to grade 11 and you start highschool in grade 7!

shortnsweet.. oh my gosh. i am so so glad your pooch is doing okay and you were able to break it up, but what a horrifying situation. that'll definitely keep you shaken up for a while. we had a similar experience to melidell, where a loose, neighborhood dog attacked both of ours while we were walking them and we had to kick them to get them off. it is really frustrating how irresonsible some people can be when it comes to pets!!

tracy i am SO glad it sounds like your shoot went well!! hopefully your photog will send teasers so you can see!

can i just say that the court system blows? at least in our county!! there are always court dates to set more court dates! so NOW we have to wait until APRIL 8th!!!! nothing like waiting till the last minute!! on the bright side, the magistrate lectured her mom saying that she should reconsider because brianna (j's daughter) could end up being really resentful of her for not letting her ago, and that she would also learn more there than she would during the 5 days of school that she'd be missing! he told us to go ahead and get her passport, so we consider that a good sign. we're also going to book her trip and just get cancellation insurance, just so we're prepared!!

also, i got centerpiece pictures with my new flowers yesterday! these will go with a black table runner and a dozen votives. we only have 3 tables at dinner, so each one will get a different flower! the pink one won't look quite so smushed in the final product, but she wanted to show how pretty the color looked!
