also, another interesting note... most of the cookware and kitchen accessories at williams sonoma are actually the same price or less expensive than bed, bath and beyond. i did a price comparison and everything to make sure what the lady told me was right.. i couldn't believe it!

so at the risk of anyone thinking that J and i are weird for registering, there are only 2 people (out of 20) that are coming to our wedding that are paying for themselves... my parents are covering everyone else. we also aren't really registering for the wedding so much as the AHR. my brother hardly registered at all for his wedding and some of our family got frustrated so we picked out fun things that we wouldn't buy for ourselves and other small things we don't have. we live together too and already have a lot of the stuff that people typically register for.

and i too would LOVE if everyone just cut us a check! we are saving up for a european trip and buying J a new car and it would be sooo nice to have just cold hard cash! :) i hate that it's so frowned upon to ask for that... people always say that they want to do something "personal"... well let me tell you... if you give us a check that helps pay for our mortgage or a vacation.. i take that VERY personally!
That is so generous of your parents! I hope everyone really appreciates that- what an awesome gesture!

I should clarify that I don't think anyone is odd for registering at all- some people may still want to buy gifts for a DW. We had a lot of reasons why we didn't but I don't think it's bad to or anything like that. It's pretty standard to register when you get married and I don't see why you shouldn't do it just because you're having a DW.

I know you're not "supposed" to ask for cash but as a sometimes wedding guest I wish that would change. Cash is so much easier to give but I always wonder if it seems too impersonal- I wish people could just tell you if that's what they want because I'd love to be able to just give that.

I guess I should clarify now too lol, I don't think there is anything wrong with a registry. It is part of a wedding regardless DW or not. We aren't doing it just because we know family and friends are all tight on cash, and for those who can come, they are saving hard core, so I thought if i did have one, people would think they still had to bring a gift.

I know what you mean, when you'd like people to say 'cash would be great'... my SIL did so with us, which is perfect, she knew we wanted to help anyway, cash or gift. She ask for cash. (probably to save for our wedding lol j/k)

Hey all,

We did register as there are a number of people not attending the wedding in Jamaica and I know some of them have asked my mom and MOH about what to get us. So we registered at Home Outfitters and The Bay. Stuff like towles and sheets and pots and pans. We moved into our house about 7 months ago so we just put things on there we wanted to upgrade. If no one buys them...no big deal. Also for all those wanting "cash" there is something called a Wishing Well shower/wedding, look it up there are websites with clever wording for invites etc...it's simply saying that the happy couple has everything they need but could use donations towards a honeymoon type thing. I had never heard of this before and my Fiance's grandma told us about it. So just a thought. Good luck to you all. Oh and registering...is a fun way to spend the afternoon too. wink.gif

Depending on your RSVP date, I think Jan is fine, because you did send out STD. Keep reading, we love to have you all caught up to us so you can join in and know what we are talking about lol

January is probably just fine- plus your invite wont get shuffled in with everyone's Christmas cards. You sent out a STD so your guests already know the details and that they're invited- this is just a nice formality/ reminder.
