We have that law in NJ too. I think the specifics depend on which jurisdiction you are in.

And just a tip if you are getting tailgated by a cop you are probably about to get pulled over, don't wait for the lights to go on, just pull over. They appreciate this and if they are not after you then you get to get him/her out of your ass.
I would have, but I had no clue it was a cop. He was in one of those new unmarked Chargers and they don't have the lights mounted on top. They are built in to the headlights. He was so close, all I could see what the black roof of a car and hear sirens. I couldn't tell where they were even coming from. I was looking in the oncoming traffic and in my rear view and couldn't see anything due to how close he was. That part annoys me most, since if anyone was riding anyone else that close to someone they would have gotten a ticket. Apparently it was ok for jerk face though!

OMG seriously?!?!?! they passed a law here saying the same thing so I always have it on speaker! I just put the blackberry speaker function on (which isn't very good btw, but whatever) and then i put the phone on my lap. I thought that was good enough! that's total BS btw, I would totally fight this in court!

Ok I will be honest, but one of the best things you can do is become friends with someone who works in law enforcement. Then they can give you a courtesy card, which you can hand over to the cop with a smile when you get pulled over. It is an unwritten rule within them to let the female friends and wives go (unless they are doing something totally dangerous) with a warning.

My fiance is a sergeant for the sheriffs department. I havent got a ticket in 3 years lol.

In big cities that have real crime problems, they might not show and you'll get off. Either way, I totally think you should go if for no other reason than to piss the cop off.
I have gotten off in the past by caling the curthouse to reschedule the court date for a day the cop will be off. As Foxy said, most times the cops get OT to show up so they will nowadays more than likely, but worth a try. If you can't get it for a day the cop is off and it will be thrown off, talk to the cop BEFORE you head into court and talk down your points if there are any associated with your ticket. Best of Luck!

I would definitely go to court on this if you are able to make the court date. Stand up for your rights, even if you end up having to pay the court costs - which I say is BS anyway, but you know the legal system. Boo....
