Thought that title might grab ya....I'm such a perve.

 

OK, so here's the thing. I found the dress I've been looking for....for about half of what I could find it ANY place else after this past 2 months of scouring the net. Y'all know I'm cost conscious and love to find a good deal. The dress is a Sottero and retails in the shops for about $1400. The lowest online/wholesale deal I've found has been $1,044.00.....and I found a lovely lady in England who has it, at $467 with the current exchange rate. This is it, it's the only one I haven't had any reservations about or just wanted because of a good deal. I think it's perfect.

 

So..the problems I'm dealing with are:

a.) It's white. Not diamond white, just white. My colors are supposed to be Ivory, Chocolate and Gold.

b.) it's also my exact street size, which is a 12. Now I've had a couple of Sotteros come and go in my life and not had a problem with 12's or 14's...I find that they run pretty true to size unlike a lot of bridal manufacturers. BUT, since I've had my surgery and expect all the accompanying hormone fluctuations I'm worried if I gain even 5-10lbs thats gonna be a problem. It's a corset back though, so theres some comfort and I can always have it taken out a bit at the hips if necessary I guess.

 

So...it really comes down to the whole white thing. If I go with a white dress, should I change the other touches of Ivory I've incorporate so far in my planning/stationary? The std's are done so thats out of my hands...but as far as the invites, flowers and decor, stick with white accents?

I'm a maggie bride too and tried on a size 8 in the store which actually fit OK BECAUSE of the corset back.... I ordered it in a 14 though so I'm sure you'll be ok with the sizing!

 

back to the white issue: First of all, I think you'd look gorgeous in white, and its saving you almost 1000 dollars which is pretty damn amazing. Second, If you love the ivory touches on everything else, I would leave them and that way you get the best of both worlds. It may just be that i'm unobservant, but I don't think I would pick up on that little difference if I were a guest.

 

Being that I'm a bride too, I know how the difference can drive you nuts! I think it might be cute to have both themes though, thats just my opinion

 

Good Luck and congrats on the awesome find! hope you are feeling better after your surgery. Random side note: my brother had brain surgery for a tumor on his pituitary gland when he was 11. He's had no natural hormone function his whole life so we have constantly dealt with hormone replacements He turned out pretty amazing and I'm sure resolving the issue entirely is a weight off your shoulders!

It really actually depends on your skin tone.

 

Stark White is the brightest, crispest white you can find. Looks great on dark skin. Silk, Diamond, or Natural White are a shade off of stark white, though it looks pretty much the same in photos. As a general rule, most people look best in a soft, diamond-white gown, which isn't as chalky as a white-white one. Some ivory dresses have yellow undertones, making them look creamy; some are just a "quiet" white. Rum or Champagne are a white with pink undertones that looks nearly white in photos.

 

If your skin is fair, you'll look best in yellow-ivories. You should probably steer clear of stark white, though -- it may wash you out. If your skin is medium with pink undertones, opt for creamier colors. If your skin is medium with yellow undertones, try diamond white or champagne. If your skin is dark, lucky you -- most shades of white will complement your skin. If you have yellow or olive undertones, though, stay away from yellow-ivory dresses. Try stark white or rum pink.

 

So you will look fine in white. If its THE dress I say do it! How ivory is your color? Is it a light ivory or tan? If its lighter I say stay with it you'll have no issue. if its a darker tan maybe change to a lighter ivory, kind of creamier. Which will still look good w/ chocolate and gold and will actually really brighten up everything!

I think you should buy the dress of your dreams (at HUGE savings!) and keep the ivory in your theme, if that's what you wuold like.

 

As brides, we get so obsessed with the details, but as a guest at weddings since my own, I can honestly tell you that no one would notice if your dress was white and your invitations were ivory. Other people are seeing our wedding in pieces, not as a whole picture like we do when we post all the pictures together.

 

For reassurance though, I would go to a store and try on this Maggie dress in the size the one you are contemplating buying is and be sure that it fits.

 

Also, you might want to check how much it is to ship and insure it from England. That might raise the bill a bit.

I agree - I think you should get the dress in white (since it sounds like this is THE dress) and keep your Ivory theme. I would be REALLY surprised if anyone will notice, plus if anything is suppose to be "white" its the dress

I think you should go ahead a buy the dress, you'll save a ton in the end. In all honesty, I really don't think anyone would notice if you use ivory instead of the white in your colours. I definitely wouldn't go and change anything you have already done, and if you want to add white to other things I don't thing anyone would pick it out. I was amazed at my wedding about how the things I obsessed about really didn't matter, I really appreciated them but not everone else noticed how I tried to put a flow to everything, including the colours. Either way, you will have the dress you always wanted, look beautiful and all at a discount price

I agree with the other girls. buy the dress of your dreams in white and keep the ivory as one of your colors. No one will notice. I know i drove myself crazy trying to be matchy matchy with stuff and no one cared besides me. So dont do that to yourself.

The dress is gonna cost $467, with another $35 for shipping. Insurance is only like $5. So I'm still coming in at quite a nice chunk lower. It's funny cuz the damn thing just keeps resurfacing in my searches, and at first I kept dismissing it because of the white thing and the timing. Thought I'd have time to find one in ivory or gold...that hasn't proven to be true. This is the Phillipa dress which is waaay popular, especially in the single digit sizes, so finding one in a 12 or 14 is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I know there are a couple girls here on BDW who have worn it!

 

I've only gotten to try it on once, and that was last year..I've checked every shop within 75 miles of us and nobody has a sample anymore. My local shop sold theirs this past January and haven't bothered replacing it. The one I tried on was a 12, and it was fine...a lil' restricting, just because of the cut, but I was still pretty comfortable in it. They have a "Grace" which is like a plainer, A-line version...I tried that one on too, and thought "I like it, but wish it had a lil' more 'oomph' to it" I think I'll keep a seamstress on tap and have it let out an inch in the hips regardless, just to make movement easier and as a "just in case" measure.

But I agree with all the girls- get your dream dress. And Carly said it best- no one will see it all laid out and compare the details like you will!
