What are you and FI/DH doing about your finances?

Like most of u ladies we have a joint account and personal accounts. Now that we are legally married we are putting more $ into the joint account, but its important for me to keep my own account so i don't have to feel guilty if i go shopping or dinner with friends :)

We just opened a joint savings account for our wedding cash to go into from our shower. I'm so excited that we finally did this. Once we are married in August, we will open up a checking that's linked to it to pay out household expenses that we both will contribute to and he will probably close his savings or keep just a minimal amount for emergencies (he's just clueless about writing out and managing a checkbook....pathetic huh...men)

We have our own separate accounts: he has his own savings and I have my own checking that my paychecks go direct deposit into. I make alot less than him (teacher and pt hairstylist), so mine money basicaly goes to pay the utility bill and 1/3 mortgage, food, my college loans, etc... I have to play catch up with my bills to be straight. Almost there woohoo! He pays for our "entertainment/weekend/family" outings.

We have been together for eight years and combined within the first 2 years. We have three joint accounts (chequing, mortgage savings and savings) and then indiv chequing each - all with the same bank. All the money goes to the joint chequing through direct deposits for our pay and then we move stuff around constantly. Works perfectly! We both buy what we want from joint and if I want to save for something secret for him I just transfer little bits to my personal chequing..

FI and I have two joint accounts and our own individual accounts. One of the joint accounts is for buying our house and bills (cable, cell phone, water, sewage, etc). The other joint is for our wedding. We contribute to both every month. Our seperate accounts are for whatever other purchases we do like dining, shopping, vacations, etc. Once the wedding is all paid for and if there's any left in there, we will close that account and combine the rest with our other joint for house stuff.

Like most of you it seems, FI and I have a joint account and then we also each have personal chequing accounts. We each put a set amount into the joint account each month and then that money pays for all of our shared living expenses. I like this because I know that the bills will be paid, but it also gives each of us the freedom to do what we want with what's leftover in our personal accounts. We use the same bank and our accounts are linked, but I can only see the balance of my account and our joint account and same for him. I think that perhaps when we're both done school and are making more money that we may combine things completely but for now when we're pinching pennies I think it's better that we still have our separate slush funds and we're not paying for and fighting about each other's sometimes poor spending habits!

We each have our own chequing accounts, savings accounts, and credit cards. It works for us :) We tried a joint account a long time ago but we just didn't use it!! It seemed like a pain to transfer money into there.. much easier to just pay a bill out of my own account. We each just pay whatever bills whenever!! Somehow it seems to work :)

We have a joint account that we got a little before we were engaged because we purchased a house together. So, we both put certain amounts in each time we get paid and use that account for bills and household items or things for the both of us (ie. wedding stuff, dinner out, etc). We still both have our own personal accounts too. I have ...well, had...somewhat of a shopping problem so we didn't think I should be spending his money on clothes and shoes when I have a full time job and make my own money. Since having a mortgage though, my spending has been curbed!!!! We plan on keeping it this way after we're married.... I think anyways. It seems to work.

We totally share everything- we have a joint chequing and joint savings. Our pay goes into the chequing and we move our savings over after bills have been paid. After the wedding we will each be opening our own tax free savings accounts (as they can only be in one persons name) at 3% interest. Neither one makes a big purchase without running it by the other and at Christmas, or other occasions, we allow a certain amount each for gifts.

When we got married, I cancelled my savings account (which for some reason was really hard for me to do) and joined his money market account (we use that as our savings) that he has with his work's credit union. But, I kept my own checking account and I joined his checking, too. I kept mine because I get paid direct deposit and my student loans are automatically deducted from that account and I just thought it would be easier to keep it. I also transfer $$ to our money market account every month and just keep whatever is left in my own checking. I don't know why, but I just need to have my own $$ even if I don't spend it. I use our joint checking for everyday expenses and bills/mortgage. We also have 1 individual credit card each and 1 joined. So far, this has worked out perfect for us.
