bringing Music to cuba?!?

I was wondering if we should/can bring our own music for our wedding night. Will they even play it at the disco?

Also we will be having a cuban band play at the ceremony ... is it possible to ask for a request?

Do any of you girls have experience with this...or maybe just some advice?

THANKS :)

At my resort the Cuban we had for the ceremony played almost anything possible, we just let them do their own thing, we wanted it to be authentic Cuban music, but they will play what you ask.

You should absolutely bring your own music. I have been to Cuba 3 times now and every time they tend to play the same stuff over and over again, Madonna, Bon Jovi and Who Let the Dogs out, no lie. They are a little behind the times when it comes to music :) Now that most of the places have the internet, they download more current stuff, but don't know what to download unless someone asks for it. So, I suggest you make your own CD's, just so you can be sure you will get to listen to the music you want to hear.

Thanks for the advice!

I'd really love to have "love me tender" played at the ceremony..so I'm not sure if i should bring a recording or ask them to play it.

I'll definitely bring some music cd's with specific songs i want played during the night...especially for the mother/son and father/daugther dance

I just hope burnt cds will work there...

I brought CDs to be played at the disco but they didn't play too many of the songs. The disco at our resort was often packed and that included entertainment staff who is off of work. They seemed to cater to them mostly and played a lot of cuban music, things that would get the crowd involved. It did bother me a bit but there wasn't really anything I could do about it, we weren't planning on having a father daughter dance but did have a song there that we wanted to use for our first dance but it never got played. It was late already, and we had a full night to that point anyways. Our CDs were a huge mix of music, something for everyone but they seemed to only want to play the dance music. I also made sure that they weren't burned off into MP3, just incase their equipment didn't play MP3 but rather just some kind of audio file.

We had our reception on the beach and had our own DJ and they played all the songs we wanted from out cd's. At the disco after our reception they also played songs that our wedding guests requested because it was our special day. They played cd's in there and our burnt cd's worked great.

Hey Jax! Awesome to see you are back... can't wait to see some pics!!!

Sorry - hijacked thread.

As for music, DH put together several CD's (not MP3)

- for the dinner

- for the dance

- and special songs (our song, father/daughter, mother/son, etc).

We had a Cuban musical trio sing me down the aisle to Besame Muchos, at our cake, champagne and cigar party, there was a four piece musical group that played live traditional Cuban tunes. At our dinner reception, we were delighted to have a 5 piece Cuban musical group - they played fantastic dinner music, and were intermittently relieved by a sax player (equally fantastic), thus we didn't need the dinner music.

The resort provided a Audio technician to do the 'special songs' and then play the Dance CD's in the numeric order we gave them to him

So, one CD - had only 4 songs on it:

our song - Come Fly with Me - Michael Bublé

father/daughter & mother/son song - What a wonderful world - Louis Armstrong

wedding party song - My Wish - Rascal Flatts

first song for everyone - Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers

Then the CD's numbered 1-4 labelled DANCE were played in that order

when we told the technician that it was time for the bouquet and garter, he went back to the special songs CD and played track 5 and 6

Bouquet toss - Diamonds are a girls best friend - Moulin Rouge Soundtrack

Garter toss - Another one bites the dust - Queen

He then went back to the numerically ordered Dance CD's and we danced till nearly 1am!

It was an amazing time!

WOW!! its great that you were able to have all of that done!

You had a much bigger wedding than we will be having though. We will only be having about 8-10 people with us so I don't think we will be having a private reception the way you did? (right??)

I'm sure that our dances will have to take place at the disco and i'm not sure that the dj's will be happy about that.

Umm... probably not, I'd suggest dinner in one of the a la cartes - My suggestion is the Spanish... it was really quite good. the room is small, so it would be intimate. If I were you I'd make a request to Sandra to have the 'special dances' at the restaurant.

Meh.... I wouldn't worry about making anyone happy - Tip them... they'll be happy!
