urggghhh my guests think the colonial maj is too expensive!!

Recommended Posts

I too think that $2000/per person is a bit much to ask guests to pay. In planning ours, we were set on Varadero as a location, and felt that it was necessary to keep the price range in teh $1200/per person range -

FI/now DH... said this was a good arguement to friends who wanted to come, and said they couldn't afford it... he would say ''$100/per month starting now, and you'll be all saved up and ready to go" our DW came in at $1100+tx = @$1250... per person.... pretty darn close.

I think that the price will indeed dictate the number of guests you have joining you.

We had 84... We wanted a big party, and we stayed at a great 4.5* resort... and made memories to last a lifetime, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

We're getting married at the Gran bahia Principe Bavaro November '09 and we're paying $1500/person flying direct from Toronto. $1500 was the absolute maximum that our guests were willing to pay, and even that I think is high.

We went to Punta Cana to the Punta Cana Princess in January '09 and paid $1000/each and it was great.

BUT, you have to make the choice: do you want a fancy resort, OR do you want your friends & family at your wedding?? Easy decision for me....

We just got our group rate quotes for Gran Bahia Principe and it is $2100 per person after taxes. That's flying from Vancouver and is airfare and hotel (all inclusive) Our guests think it's too expensive too and are backing out. But it's my wedding and I want to stay in a nice hotel. We're only having a small wedding (15 people) and probably half have backed out. That's also quite far in advance, so prices will most likely go down later in the year.

I found the same thing I would have loved to go to the Colonial but the price was just too much to ask my guests to pay. At the end of the day I would rather have more people to celebrate with then the top resort. I ended up locking my price in at the Sirenis Tropical for this reason it’s a 4.5 star rather then a 5. It was much more reasonable. Check it out. There is also one other person I know of on this forum going here for this reason. I figure we will upgrade for our second week, our honeymoon, and go to the resort we really want and may normally find a little expensive.

Hey Brides,

Another thing to consider is the time of year you are talking about getting married. Jan, Feb and March are the most expensive months to ask guests to travel. April 15 and on prices go down and this was a consideration when I was picking my day. We chose May because it was less expensive for guests to attend and we are getting married at the Majestic Colonial. I know I was quoted from Philadelphia or Newark airport and 7 nights accommodations with taxes and everything $1270/person. If you like the Majestic consider another month, if you are set on January look elsewhere if too expensive but generally every resort is more expensive in January, Feb, and March because it's prime season. Goodluck picking your resort and with your wedding! :o)
