Our Jamaica engagement story

Recommended Posts

Our wedding's a little over a week away, so I figured I'd share our engagement story:

I had traveled to Jamaica earlier that week to cover the Air JA Jazz and Blues Festival for a radio station I worked for at the time, and couldn't wait for FI to arrive that Sunday! I checked out of the hotel, left my co-workers behind, and met him at the airport in Montego Bay, and we were soon off to Ocho Rios.

After a long afternoon catching up, soaking in the sun and swimming in the pool, we went back up to our room to shower and change so we could go out for dinner. Exhausted, I fell asleep while he got ready. I woke up to FI calling me out to the balcony to take in the nighttime scenery and listen to the tree frogs sing.

As I sat on his lap on the balcony and we just took in the scenery (the hotel is up on a hill, and you can see the ocean in the distance below). He soon stood up and started to tell me how much he loved me, then brought out a little white box and asked me to marry him... the tears welled up in my eyes and I choked out a "Yes I will!!" He's not a very emotional person so I was surprised that his eyes welled up too and we stood outside and hugged for a long time before we rushed back into the room so I could actually see the ring!!

He told me that he took my dad out for dinner & beer earlier that weekend, to properly "ask" for my hand in marriage.

I grinned from ear-to-ear the rest of the night as we went out for a great seafood dinner and spent two more days in paradise before heading back to frozen Chicago on my 29th birthday. :-)

Us out to dinner right after the engagement:

We got engaged in Jamaica too, in Negril. We went out to the beach - and he got down on one knee I was so shocked! You actually got married at the hotel we were going to stay at during the same time! how crazy! Hope it was great Congrats!
