AHR 6 days after we get home

Recommended Posts

Okay, so not to be judgemental of other peoples choices but My fiance and I decided that we were going to do our at home reception 6 days after we get back from mexico, the reasoning is that in my mind I dont want people to feel like its a money/gift grabber. We are pulling out all the stops, going semi formal, having an open bar, dj, sit down dinner, margarita bar, ongoing slide show of the holiday, pictures in front of a mexican backdrop, sombreros and sunglasses. We will be having it in January and here in ontario it will be very very cold but we want to bring the mexican vibe to those who couldnt come, there will be approximately 120 ppl.

I do need some Ideas on how to make this event more of a fun party and less of a formal wedding. On the invites we put no ties allowed but due to the weather I cant expect shorts and sundresses. Anyone have any ideas of how to make this super funsmile29.gif

No kidding. How about this? Some of us want our pics and video to come back so we can actually share our day with our guests. Besides, our family and friends know we're not the type of people to have a "money grab" so we don't have to prove anything. Maybe you do.

Im really sorry. I wasnt trying to be rude, Maybe had I not said Im not trying to be judgemental you wouldnt have thought I was being that way ( not that that makes any sense) My sister got married in Vegas and in November and was going to do her AHR in June but by the time april came around and she was going to do her inviting, she felt like the whole wedding thing was done and over with and she didnt want people to get the wrong impression. I was trying to be polite and I truly apologize if anyone took that the wrong way and thats why we are doing our reception so close together, so we are still in wedding mode.

I was just trying to get some helpful ideas from people who know it best, not stir up any trouble.

I completely understand what you meant. The whole judgmental statement was there to probalby avoid comments about why you're having your AHR so soon after your return. I had my AHR 6 days after we got back too. We had our video ready and our pro pics had been sent to us right away because we requested that. It went really well.

A fun idea I liked and that kept our party going was instead of tinkling glasses to make the bride and groom kiss...we had 2 hoola hoops and people had to try and make 2 complete rotations with them and then we'd kiss. We ended up using the hoola hoops all night on the dance floor and people kept coming up to us to try and make us kiss. It was hilarious and kept the party going.

It sounds like you put a lot of thought and effort into your AHR. It was DH's idea to have our AHR so soon after our arrival and as much as I thought I would've preferred a backyard bbq in July...I'm glad it's all over with now and we can just enjoy being married!!

Good luck and happy planning!

Our reception is in Feburary (DW in Jan), so I know how you feel about the chilling temperatures outside and the tropical feel. We worded the dress attire to be beach casual for the reception too...I'm expecting long kakis pants for the guys and the usual wedding dresses for the girls but we'll see. To add the tropical feel we have got a slushee machine for pina coladas etc. We'll see how it goes, not sure how many people are like me and want a pina colada in February.
