Best foundation etc for photos

Recommended Posts

I think this thread is so great but it also just made me more confused. Smashbox or Laura Mercier, no idea which way to go. I don't wear anything on my face ever. Just on my eyes(eyeliner, shadow and mascara) so I am really nervous about wearing foundation etc. I want to buy this stuff this summer when I am tan so I can get the right shades for how I will look come december at our wedding. Ugh huh02.gif

I worked as a makeup artist in college and have done at least 40 to 50 weddings in my day. Seeing as this is a destination wedding forum, I'll assume most of us will be in a warm humid climate. So, my big thing is to use a very light moisturizer don't use a moisturizer or foundation that is humectant. Humectants pull moisture into the skin, and you could get dewy really fast on a humid day. Just use a light moisturizer even something with a little silicone. You can mix your moisturizer with concealer to even out skin tone and any imperfections. (thin layer is better than thick) I like to buff powder foundation lightly into that on top with a large blush brush. Go light, you shouldn't need much. You can blot with a kleenex to remove access.

Some think this looks stark, and it does cause you have no shape to you face. Once you add bronzer and blush it is really very pretty.

I worked for a number of different companies and MAC Select Cover Up Concealer and Studio Fix or Mineralize are by far my favorites, they are beautiful and cost effective. Not to mention you can go into the store and have them show you how. As for bronzer my favorite is CK Calvin Klein, they have it at Sephora.

With whatever you go with, blot away excess sweat and makeup before you add more during touch ups. This will keep you from a heavy face at the end of the night.

These are some of the greatest products out there, and worth every penny. Sephora just launched the line a month or so ago, and right now they have a little pack with primer, tinted moisturizer, two brushes, three pads, a two tone concealer AND a setting powder for $80 cndn. And it all comes in a nifty little case.
Thanks for the recommendation! I got this little pack, curious to try the primer. Tried on the whole kit, following instructions to the book. I LOVE the result!!!

Problem is, I've developped an allergic reaction over my nose, cheeks and forehead :-( Not sure to which one of the items though, since I used all of the ones in the kit! I'll have to do a "dot blot" test over my arm this weekend and see which one I reacted to.

Darn sensitive skin :-( Had to use corticosteroid cream to decrease the allergic reaction...

All, Thanks for this thread and all the information.

I usually wear bare minerals but have really been worried lately. We go to all our college football games (literally all day) and a lot of outdoor concert events here and in New Orleans. The last year or two, I've noticed I look like a grease pit in photos at night after these all day outings and I don't have greasy skin. This thread told me why. I am wearing a makeup that shines in photos! Great information.

I went to Sephora at lunch today and got loaded up with samples. We found good color matches in MUFE and a brand called Laroc. They also gave me samples of three different types of primer, a couple with SPF. I can't wait to try some of the products!

I actually bought one thing on the spot because I was sold the moment she put it on. It is the Smashbox Halo powder. It looks awesome and has things in it to enrich your skin.

Any recommendaions on which moisturizers to use underneath these great makeups that won't shine through?
