Best foundation etc for photos

Recommended Posts

Girl! I just did a major run through at Sephora on make-up for my wedding day...I literally ran them through the test...and Dillard's and Saks Fifth Avenue.

I tried Christian Dior, Estee Lauder, NARS, Smashbox, Laura Mercier, and Make Up Forever.

The best solution for me for foundation is Laura Mercier. I also combined this purchase with a primer of Smashbox with SPF. I'm telling you Laura Mercier is the shizzle, and Smashbox has the best primer on the market. And to top it all off, I purchased Lancome powder.....works beautifully!

On another note, the Make Up Forever line is pretty incredible, it is made for high definition photos/television, and is major cover-up. I chose not to go with it becuase I felt that it would make me feel all yucky on the wedding day...you know heavy make-up, heat, and humidity - gross.

That's my 2-cents...and the staff at Sephora are so friendly, blew away Saks and Dillards. And you get free samples! Good luck!

HotTamale-What Smashbox primer did you buy??

My friend also recommends using this, but I thought she was full of sh*t....LOL...Now I'm tempted to go buy it and use ith with my Laura Mercier.

What exactly does the primer do?..even out fine lines etc?

I plan on using Make up Forever HD foundation. Its supposed to give medium coverage but I seriously feel like I am not wearing anything! That stuff is soooo light. I am still trying to get the right shade. I am going to Sephora tomorrow to test a couple more out and get a sample.

Regarding MAC. I personally love everything MAC and have at least 50 eye shadows with a bunch more stuff, but I do not think their foundation is the best per say... A lot of people tend to break out with it. I also think that you really have to know how much to apply and how to apply it. If you don't put on the right amount you really look like you have a mask on. With the MUFE HD foundation I feel like you can really pack it on and it still feels and looks natural.

Anyways... Both MAC and Sephora give free samples of things like foundation. I would suggest going in to both and having them try things out on you and see what you like and then ask for a sample in your shade and go home and try it out for a day or two and see how it looks in the day light, if your skin breaks out, how the coverage is, etc.

Makeup primer is a must! It creates a smooth canvas for the foundation and your makeup will last longer. Smashbox's Photofinish Light is great b/c it's oil free. I also have the lavender bottle (for yellow skin-tones).

Sephora makes a travel-size version, but I'm sure they can give you a sample or just try it on at the store Sephora: Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer: Primer

I bought MUFE HD Foundation. The color match is incredible and it has no titanium dioxide. The only downside is that I don't think it's very moisturizing. Maybe I'm not used to a more matte finish....

I really want to try Laura Mercier's foundation though! Her oil-free tinted moisturizer is amazing!

I totally agree, I really like the MUFE foundation as I kind of don't have the greatest complextion, so it covers up everything and I don't feel it at all. Also no touch ups required, I also use their concealer, also awesome.

However I do find that it is drying in certain areas as well, does anyone use a special moisturizer before putting on foundation to prevent this?

I tried the MUFE HD and I was a grease pit. I'm oily and use Obagi. I would love to use LM, but I always end up needing two shades to mix to get my shade...way expensive. MAC breaks me out too. I'll just keep reading and see if any other rec. pop up.

I always use Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Compact foundation, and a really good primer. Right now I'm using the Cargo FX primer. And I finish it up with a really good loose powder, either Stila or Bobbi Brown I prefer. Just layer the foundation cheesy.gif
