Hotel Milamores and other questions

We're considering maybe staying there when we're down in a few weeks. Then we'll talk to the owners about their flat fee too. I would prefer if it went down and didn't include the open bar. Our guests aren't really drinkers anywayz.

 

Did the fee also include set up of a ceremony location and chairs on the beach?

Hi TorontoGirloutWest,

I think it's a great idea to hang out at Milamores when you go to Tulum for a visit. Whether you stay there or just spend time on beach at their property, check it out. When my FI and I were in Tulum in March, we didn't stay there but visited Milamores on 3 consecutive days and had an amazing time getting to know Pamela and Alberto (owners). On the last night we were there, they invited us to participate in a menu tasting and everything served was delish!! Daniel, the chef at Milamores, is a genius. Pamela and Alberto are very personable and accessible and I believe that they will neotiate with you especially if you are not interested in an open bar. I believe that they will go out of their way to accommodate your needs and you might be able to come to a mutual arrangement such as 1-2 hours of open bar or establish a fixed menu price and pay for drinks as they are consumed. I am confident that you will be able to work something out with them.

As for the ceremony set-up, I think that in part it depends on how many people will be attending your wedding. We are planning on having approximately 75 guests (yikes) and are working with a coordinator (Gwen Grosset) who has informed us that Milamores will provide the tables and chairs for the reception but we will need to rent chairs for the ceremony. Unfortunately I think this if fairly customary with most locations as FI and I visited several establishments and met with 4 different coordinators and this seemed to be the same throughout. Chairs are generally $6/chair. I do not know what Milamores' responsibility will be pertaining to set-up, but they are working closely with our coordinator and again I believe that they will be very supportive and helpful.

As for now, we are planning on having our ceremony on the beach in front of the smaller villa (which as of now is the main entrance of the property), our cocktail hour on top of the terrace of the larger villa (unbelievable!!!), and dinner/dancing/beach lounge/cigar roller/bonfire, etc on the beach. I told Pamela about the style of decor I like and I think they will let us use things that they have on the property free of charge (I think..I hope). Everything else will either be be arranged by our coordinator or we will bring it with us.

Hello All,

My fiance and I just returned from Mexico and Milamores. Milamores is Paradise Found. We stopped by on Sunday and were given a proper tour of the property by Pamela. She basically dropped what she was doing to show us both villas. The property is so unique and stunning. After our tour we were given the most delicious margaritas and tried not to show how excited and giddy we were. We also visited Al Cielo and Ana y Jose and Milamores is more our style. Pamela invited us to sample the chef's tasting menu. Daniel (chef) is personable and his food was spectacular. I can see why other brides felt like princesses during their stay at Milamores. The owners are very flexible with our vision and put us in contact with several wedding planners.

 

Thanks to everyone for the advice thus far. My fiance and I will return in November 2009 for another visit and will stay on the property.

Malisa, I give you huge props for all of the information you shared with this forum. When we visited Milamores we saw a picture from your wedding included in the brochure. I think the new owners will keep the property pristine over the next 5 years of their lease. Pamela told us the actor Benicio del Toro stayed there and I wasn't surprised.

I think a lot of brides go to Riviera Maya and have a wedding at a large full-service resort. My fiance and I stayed at Dreams Tulum and were unimpressed. Ana y Jose's place is also popular spot to have the ceremony and reception but the site did not compare to Milamores.

Milamores is amazing, isn't it? Once you see it and experience it, you know it's the place. Congratulations!!! We will also be there in November so perhaps our paths will cross.

You said you are going to have dinner/dancing/beach lounge/cigar roller/bonfire, etc on the beach. I am hoping for 60 guests. Milamore has a large private beach but I was thinking of having the dinner and dancing inside. What made you decide to have it outside?

Hi Sycamore Tree,

We are not 100% certain that we will have everything on the beach, but as of now, that's what we are planning on. We decided to do this simply for preference, not because of any limitations with capacity. When FI and I were last at Milamores, they had not yet opened the kitchen/dining area attached to the No Me Olvides Villa , so we had a clean slate to work with when visualizing our reception. We want to provide our guests with an experience that most have not had, which is why we like the idea of dinner on the beach, in addition to some of the other things I mentioned previously. We might have some tables on the beach with others in the palapa, these detail will work themselves out in time. The other factor that went into this decision is that many of our guests will be staying at Milamores and our welcome event will also take place there, so they will be fairly familiar with the place by the time of our wedding. We want to create some level of "reveal" come wedding time.

Anther reason we want to have our reception on the beach is because we want to create different areas for people to relax such as a cigar lounge (def needs to be outside), a "quiet corner" for sleeping children so that their parents don't have to leave earlier than they want (using beach daybeds), a DIY photo booth (this could be inside or outside), and obviously the bonfire (Pamela and Alberto made a bonfire for FI and I during our site visit when they hung out with us and it was AMAZING!!!)

In terms of florists and DJ, we are still working out these details with our wedding coordinator, Gwen from Destination Weddings Tulum. Our current arrangement is that we have weekly(ish) conversations via Skype whereby we discuss the inspiration photos that I send to her beforehand. Our focus has been on accommodation information and ceremony/reception decor. Gwen initially recommended the florist Vanessa Jaime located out of Cancun (there is lots of info about Vanessa here on BDW), however she is unavailable on our date. Gwen has other florists whom she has worked with and plans on showing them pictures that I like and having them do a mock-up until we come to an agreement. What I like about Gwen is that as a coordinator who lives in Tulum and has worked at Blue Tulum as their coordinator, she is fairly well connected in the area (she also has very affordable rates). She has negotiated discounted rates for our guests to stay at Blue Tulum, for those who want an all-inclusive experience.

We have not yet discussed DJ options in too much detail, but this is very important to us. Because we are not convinced that we will find a DJ that will meet our style, FI and I plan on making an extensive playlist of what we want with specific instructions as to what we don't want. Gwen has a few options that we will probably start to seriously discuss in the next few weeks.

Have you heard of any DJ's tat you are considering? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about what you are planning on doing.

I met Marvin two weeks ago and he is less expensive, compared with Vanessa. He prepared 7 arrangements for my visit. He is very nice and is really aimed to please his clients.
