Sound Illusion DJ

Recommended Posts

Yes that's true, though I read somewhere on a thread that you can contact them directly. I was quoted $200 per hour-by Oneika, and surprisingly, the DJ was there very early, including taking pictures of the ceremony, lol. (We had steel drummers for the wedding and cocktail hour).

How were the steel drummers?  any song choices you recommend?  I'm getting married at MDC, so I'm pretty sure it'll be the same steel drum band as you used :)

Thanks dmob. I initially contacted Sound Illusion directly and got a response which included the fact that in order to get pricing, I'd need to go through Oneika. A bit circular, but that is fine. LOL. I was also quoted $200/hour. Kevan of JA Weddings quoted $170/hour. It also looks like Kevan offers different packages whereas Sound Illusion only has the hourly rate.

I also plan to have steel drums for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Do you recall who you used and were you happy with them? The rate I have been quoted is $250/hour.

Last - How did you handle tips for the steel drummers and/or DJ?

we tipped on checking out on last day(which is when we paid their tab), truefully, I didn't think of tipping them at time of wedding/reception. Oops, my bad!!

Steel Drummers were arranged through Oneika and they did a great job! We had special requests of traditional and fun, plus during the cocktail hour they played a variety of music.

During the prelude and ceremony Ode to Joy, Ava Maria, Pachabel's Canon in D major, Bride's entrance- Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Recessional - One Love (the wedding theme).

fun music-Don't Worry Be Happy!, Under the Sea, i Can't Help Falling in Love with You. Go to youtube and search for steel drum music and you will hear some great music! The steel drummers were great!

The thing is that your wedding planner will take care in making sure the venders are where they should be on your wedding day and keep to your  timeline, so I guess one less thing to worry about!

MDC is beautiful, we had our rehearsal (really didn't have a rehearsal, but night before wedding) at MDC. Beautiful grounds!

Thanks dmob! That's a really good suggestion! I already know what I want to walk down the aisle to - it's top secret, but I'll be happy to share it after 7/23woot.gif I haven't given much thought to what would be playing prior to my entrance... or for the recessional. Thanks! You are a great resource!

Hey Redginger - We met with Paul from Sound Illusion when we were at a site visit at Moon Dance Villas and he was fantastic. We've decided to use him for our wedding reception in July. From what I saw, I'd recommend him, but I'll write a post-wedding review, so check back in August.

Thank you LaraJo...congrats on your upcoming wedding! Wow, Moon Dance Villas is a beautiful location. We really wanted our wedding there, but it was outside of our budget :-(

Thanks very much Redginger. You'll find a lot of helpful reviews and information on this site, so hopefully that will make selecting a resort a little easier for you.  If you want to do a villa style wedding, you can check out villas at www.sunvillas.com.

From everything I've read/heard about Sound Illusion, you really can't go wrong.

Happy planning!

Lara

Can I ask where your wedding was? Ours is at the Riu in Montego Bay. I'm just wondering if he'd be willing to travel to MB if needed. Thanks!
