Calling all *Curvacious* women!!

Totally random and I apologize ladies, but I need some creative help on this one. FI's mother turns 60 next week, and I have no idea what to get the woman. For my b-day she bought me the most disgusting used knockoff coach purse I've ever seen (not an exaggeration, there were nasty kool-aid stains inside).

I want to play nice, but I refuse to break the bank for someone so vindictive. Anybody have any creative gift ideas that I could use? I don't want to resort to buying her stuff from Bath and Body Works or somethihng....tried it last year and it went over like a fart in church.

that IS random. but i will give you the rule of thumb that works out very nicely in my household. if it's someone in MY family, i'm responsible for getting the gift, and when it's someone from DH's family, it's HIS responsibility ... then both our names go on the card. works like a charm!

p.s. love the saying, "went over like a fart in church" ... makes me giggle.

Any "chunky chicks" (lol - I love that) have experiences with trying on dresses made of light, flowy fabrics, versus something more structured and which looked better on? My original thought is that something flowy would be good at hiding my tummy, but for all I know it could just make me look pregnant!! eek.gif
I was going to buy a light flowy dress too. I found one that was "fine". I had tried on a light one here at home and it was $900!!! And there was no way I wanted to spend that much on a dress so I was going to settle for the one that was "fine".

Well, I went back and said "I'm willing to try anything". The first one they brought was an A-line full of crinolyn, layers and layers, and . . . IT LOOKED AMAZING!!! And for the same price and the "fine" one!

I say try anything and don't limit yourself. Go in with an open mind.

SPANX - LOVE THEM! Considering getting a pair for everyday of the week to wear under my regular clothes. I can now wear a tight fitting top and not have 2 bellies!!

It's early here and I'm still working on my morning coffee, so not 100% awake yet, but will try to help think of ideas as the day goes on. But I just had to say that I laughed at the fart in church line and spit a little coffee out while doing it, lol - that's a good one :)

Hey Brandy how about something personalized from Things Remembered... Or get her a purse or wallet bottle of perfume, pair of pajamas. You could get something cute for a good price at like Marshalls or TJMaxx. Good Luck....

Hey Brandy - Similar to what Ashley mentioned, I was thinking something personalized could be good - do you have a Brighton or Things Remembered by you? I don't know what your budget is, but Pajamagram has some really cute things, and so does Red Envelope - I LOVE Red Envelope for gifts, I can always find soemthing but they can be a little expensive - however they do have some great sales as well.

Or what about a spa gift certificate to get a manicure or pedicure? I don't know a wonam alive that doesn't love to be pampered.

Thanks for the help ladies! We ended up getting momma a gift certificate4 for an our massage at Spa Envy, and then FI got her a months worth of house cleaning from the merr maids. Hopefully this will work for her, and if not, I tried!

Also, while I was looking for ideas on the web I came across a giant shoe sale on bluefly.com. If anybodyn is as much of a shoe nut as I am you'll appreciate these prices. Got some great strappy sandals for our week in Mexico, and they have a little bit of everything. Just a fun little heads up for everybody if youre in the market for new shoes..

You will LOVE spanx if you've never tried them! I was also looking at flowy dresses, but when I went to try some on, I found out that the more structured ones were more slimming on me. Especially the ones that are gathered to one side at the waist. The chiffon looked good standing still in the store, but I was worried it would cling to me in the wind, and also walking down the isle...I had a MOH dress last summer in chiffon at an outdoor wedding and it did just that. I did have spanx on so it wasn't as bad, but the beach will be windy so I didn't want to take any chances.
Good luck trying them on...you WILL find the perfect dress!

Ok it's 7am and Susie is checking her updates and is now freaking out!!!!!!

My dress is flowy and soft and I am going to look like a lumpy clown. I too thought having a softer flowy dress would hide the rolls. I am having it made and will not get to even see the start of the dress until the end of Sept.

So i'll look like a 42 year old pregnant clown. where's the baileys for my coffeehuh.gif?? "I'll be shopping for some SPANX today. That should be fun, bubble wrapped inside your wedding dress.
