Mayan Rivieria safety

Hi brides,

I saw the Mexico thread on safety, but I was wondering your thoughts on the safety specific to the Playa del Carmen region.

 

My aunt just got back from Azul Sensatori and she was commenting on how she felt like she would only go somewhere with the tour bus. Would you guys feel it's safe going around on your own? i.e. taking a taxi or a Colectivo (bus).

 

I wonder if she was just being overly cautious.........

We took the collectivos and taxis and we felt perfectly fine and safe. I think a lot of the overall Mexico safety threads are basically about either Riviera Maya or Cabo, so I think that information will be beneficial to you.
