I also just was introduced to Cava, by my FI who has working at a Spanish restaurant for awhile. Not really sure how to explain it but it's like a fruitier champagne. Amazing.

Love Cavas - the Spanish version of Prosecco. It's delicious. I see more and more of them on menus as alternatives to champagne - especially by the glass (or you get those little splits that are so fun!).

We live within 45 mins-2 hrs of 7 different wine regions in CA (Napa, Sonoma, Central Coast, East Bay/Livermore, Lodi, Amador, Foothills) therefore we get to go tasting at least once a month. So we are some spoiled winos!! We also belong to more wine clubs then we should   I love reds, particularly Cabs, Tempranillos, and petite sirahs, and not a fan of most merlots. My belief is, if wine is served in church, it must be good for the soul

I am actually a wine distributor, so I sell wine to restaurants, hotels, clubs, stores, etc. And I recently passed my Introductory Sommelier class ... so in a few more years I *should* be a certified sommelier.

I started out drinking Boones Farm and white zinfandel in college - graduated to Rieslings and Franzia wine-in-a-box.

Now, I am a lover of all things wine and appreciate so many different varietals. It's amazing how your palate changes and allows you to enjoy and appreciate different wines over time.

I sell over 4,000 differnt wines ... in all price points ... so I have my favorites in every price range.

The best wine is the wine that you like. It is a totally beautiful and subjective experience. If you like it - then it's a good wine. That's what I tell my customers as well. And I love when I can find them wines that they love that are not expensive.

 

That shower idea is sooo cute....i just may steal it, my MOH has been hassling me for what I want at my shower. If we weren't going to MX for our wedding, we'd totally be going to a vineyard!

This is EXACTLY what my Wine Club did as a shower for me last summer. My mom supplied labels to everyone to write 'reasons to open' on each bottle. It was a very exciting moment when we opened our 'first month of marraige' bottle, and I plan on Friday to open the 'thank you cards are finished' bottle - we are STILL getting presents for our JAN wedding.

Red is my absolute favourite - right now DH and I are really into Malbec's -- from specifically Argentina. A fantastic one (which was also a wedding gift) is CATENA ALTA MALBEC 2005 it is kinda expensive -- but freakin fantastic.

I totally agree with Tami, a co-worker of mine and I had a competition going, every payday (bi-weekly) we'd buy each other a bottle of wine. The wine had to be good (obviously) but furthermore, had to be under $10....

IN CANADA THIS IS NOT SUCH AN EASY TASK. (I am totally jealous of the American girls, while in Florida last year - Publix (grocery store), had my fav under $10/$15 bottles -- for under $6.... and some had COUPONS -- so not fair. oops

I really ave no idea how to pick wine. I just pick a bottle with a nice label that comes from a place that has a rep of good wines and hope the taste pleases me.

Sorry but besides mojitos I am not big on drinking.

I love trying different wines!! I tend to gravitate towards carmeneres from Chile for reds. I also prefer sweeter dessert wines & rose wines. Living on Long Island, I'm about 40 mins away from a variety of vineyards and one of my favorites from LI wineries is the Winter White from Pindar Vineyards - a white blend & very good!! I also like the moscatos & the moscato di Asti as well as Riesling. For our wedding we might use Riesling for the toast or Moscato di Asti since I get allergic reactions to a lot of champagnes, which is quite strange.
