After the keratin I could do it in 10 minutes.

Totally worth the money and my hair is highlighted and it doesn't break - it's not chemicals like the Japanese straightening so it doesn't hurt your hair.

It took about 2 hours. They wash your hair then blow dry it straight, then paint this stuff onto your hair with a brush. Then they blow dry it straight again and then use the flat iron so it is stick straight. You can't wash it for 72 hours. When you do wash it, you have to use special products specific for Keratin treated hair...they're expensive but totally worth it. I don't buy them from the salon - I get them at a beauty supply store so they're a little cheaper and I don't wash my hair every day anyway.

Here's a link to the website - you can put in your location and it will tell you if there's a salon near you that does it. The Hairdresser has to get certified to use the product. At my place there are only 2 people out of 10 that do it. I paid $250 to get it done and it lasted about 6 months. I had it done originally in April, again last week and I'll have it done a couple of weeks before the wedding.

My sister had it done last month and her hair looks great. We both did the Japanese straightening a few years ago, and I was going to do that again, but after seeing how great her hair looks now, I'm doing the Keratin. My hair isn't quite where I want it length-wise, so I'm going to wait a few more months before I get it done.

So I did this on Sunday afternoon and the process was pretty simple.

  • Wash/dry your hair like normal (w/o worrying about getting it straight)
  • Apply formula to hair and comb thru to make sure each strand is affected
  • Once the whole head is done, comb all hair dfor 5 mins to "activate"
  • Dry hair (again w/o worrying about straightening)
  • - the drying part took a LONG time, I think b/c the straightening liquid was like creamy or something
  • Then flat iron the shit out of it in small sections! (this took a while too)
  • Then you are to keep hair dry and straight, with more flat ironing if needed, for 4 days before washing

I am on day 2 right now and not sure how to make it to day 4! I can't wash it until Thursday night according to the instructions, but I feel like a greasy blond Morticia! It's so dirty looking alraedy and it's so stinking straight it just hangs.

My mom says to hold out, so I'm pretty sure I can make it to tomorrow night. And hopefully I can then say, it's only one more day to Thursday! But I'm really not sure. i might have to buy a silk scarf or something to wear over my head!

I didn't do before pics or anything, but if the results are good, I can show after. My hair isn't super curly, just wavy and fuzzy looking. This is supposed to tame it down so I can let it air dry and not be wild. We shall see!

ETA: I can't believe I forgot to write this b/c it was the main reason I wanted to get in this thread. But when I got to work yesterday morning, I combed my hair b/c it was windy walking in. When I was done, I looked down and had a LAP full of broken hairs!! I got so nervous that I was going bald and started googling, only to find that it happens to alot of people!! I was tempted to wash it out last night, but the breakage seemed to have stopped. So I've been monitoring it ever since.

Here is the product I used - http://www.keratinaonline.com/en/Products.php

You can make curls with a curling iron, but you really have to spray them - if I air dry my hair it's still basically straight. Diffuser doesn't really help even if I scrunch it - my hair is not curly any more.

Carly -
I totally know how you feel with the dirty hair - it's so hard when you first get it done to wait but it's so worth it.

I think my trip and all the chlorine/salt water may have done a number on my treatment - it's a little dried out now - they sell a deep conditioner - I'm going to get that today.
