VENT: Step mom says, "They might not make it"

Recommended Posts

Oh, I'm really sorry - that just sucks sad.gif Is it because of money?? If so, do you think you could help them out?? We had set aside a couple thousand in the beginning in case anyone SUPER close just could not make it for financial reasons, because we knew that might happen. Turned out no one needed it - all the people who are most important are going to be there, pretty much!!

I hope things work out for you and that he WILL come... good luck

I totally understand where you're coming from. I had the same thing happen to me. I agree with Jaimelynn. Maybe if it is a financial strain on them, and you have the resources you could volunteer to pay for some portion of their travel expenses. It helped in our situation. We're going to pay for the hotel so his mom and step dad have decided to come to our wedding. Hope everything works out for you and if they decided that they can't make it, just try and remember everyone that WILL be there for your special day and consider it your dad and step mom's loss.

I'm not so sure its a financial strain; they managed to buy a manufactured home and camper in the last 2 years, albeit both were on credit with the bank. I think they forgot to plan for it. We've been engaged for almost a year and we've known we'd be having the wedding in Mexico a little less than that. It is certainly not a surprise.

As of 8:30pm PST, I haven't heard anything. I guess they forgot to call me to let me know either way if they could come to our wedding.

This is sooooo hard; my FI is out of town at work and I could really use a big bear hug and his reassuring words from him right now.

really unless it's about money or health reasons, there is just no excuse for a father not to attend his own daughter's wedding. have a heart-to-heart with him. if it's money, maybe you can help out, or he can stay somewhere cheaper nearby and come on wedding day. if it's his partner, she can stay the hell home. family should come first.

have you set a date yet? he could change his tune 500 times before your wedding day ... we had people close to us who did!

Hey There, I dont know if you are looking for advise or sympathy, however, I have both. About 2 weeks ago, both my sisters lost their jobs and will be moving "back home" with my parents. My dad was on the verge of losing his job and keeps getting his hours cut at work. My mom called me and said that none of them were going to be able to make it. I snapped off HARD on her. Im sure she felt bad about giving me that news, but guess what, this is MY WEDDING!!! My father IS walking me down the aisle. We had some long group discussions and gave them the option to come at least for 1 or 2 days. They were originally going to pay for themselves, both my sisters, and their boyfriends to go (oddly enough she wasnt going to pay for my and my FI.....) But anyways after some long talks, I pretty much demanded that my dad still show up to walk me down the aisle. The changed their booking and both my mom and dad will be coming for a few days, however, my sisters arent coming at all. I understood financial burden on them, but that is no excuse for not getting down there for at least a day or two. Hell, my FI was in the police academy about 4 years ago when his brother got married. He left the police academy Firday night, flew out od Ohare to Seattle on Saturday morning, stood up for his brothers wedding on Saturday, then flew back on Sunday morning. So realistically, there are no excuses for missing a family members wedding.

With all that said, if things still dont go your way, you might want to snap off like I did. Laying a guilt trip can work too...and talk to your dad. Communication is key, and you have to tell your parents exactly what you are thinking. Well, best of luck to you and Ill keep my fingers crossed for you!

UPDATE

My dad called me last night finally... Although he won't be able to participate in the group rates that are due May 1st, he is going to talk to his bank where they just got their mortgage. He's going to ask if they can add on enough to cover the trip. Then he's either going to contact our TA or book the trip through another TA.

I am sooooo relieved! I really was worried there for a while!!

Thank you ladies for your kind words, encouragement and support!! I appreciate being able to talk about my wedding-related troubles with a group of people who truly understand the whirlwind of emotions we brides-to-be go through!
