Catastrophe Engagement!

Recommended Posts

Here it is, Ladies!

Before I left my job at a very "Devil Wears Prada" advertising/catalog agency near Philadelphia, I was looking for another job and had a 2nd interview at a book publishing company in Maryland planned for the first day of a 3-day mini vacation in August. The game plan was that I was going to go to the interview and then come home and get John so we could drive down to Ocean City, Maryland to meet my parents, who were already there.

On my way to the interview, I was at a stop light when the unthinkable happened. Some chick reading Map Quest directions wasn’t paying attention when she was approaching the stop light, and slammed into the back of my car, ramming me up over a grass and cement lane divider as I tried to avoid hitting the car in front of me! Everyone was ok, but due to the front end damage on my car (it tore out the radiator), my car was undriveable. Can you believe that the tow-truck driver had to drop me off at my interview?? Ridiculous! Anyway, we were going to make plans to get a rental car (John’s truck was also in the shop at the time), so we could still go to the beach the next day, but when I spoke to my parents that night, they said they were going to be coming home, as they had just gotten word from my aunt that my only living grandparent (Dad's Mom) fell gravely ill during the SAME day. Little did I know that John’s plans to propose during "A moonlit walk on the Maryland Shore in the surf and moonlight" was never to be.

So, since LIFE came up and got in the way, his proposal plans were changed. He proposed to me, on bended knee, right in our living room! It was completely adorable and I never saw it coming! I was so wrapped up in dealing with the insurance people and my grandmother's health-status that, he simply stopped me where I stood 3 days after the accident. With the ring burning a hole in his pocket as he says, and so much sincerity and love in his eyes, he asked me to "do him the honor of being his wife", and I couldn't say anything else to the man I love but "YES!" I even tackled him to the floor, I was so excited! We’ve sure got a story to tell though, right?

Congrats to all the BDW Brides!

Christie :)

Mine planned a big surprise birthday / engagement party for me at a local pub but Hurricane Gustav put a mandatory curfew on Baton Rouge so we couldn't do that. Instead he proposed at his mother's house.

You never know what life with throw at you, just know it always works out!

Awwwwww.....that seriously made me go all jelloid and talk in a "that is so cute" tiny voice!! I would have tackled him too. Sometimes, you don't need the moonlight and the beach....just the luuurve.

Congrats to both of you!!!

(You know in the theater, they always say if the dress rehearsal goes wonky, the actual show will go perfect!! I bet your wedding and life together is going to be perfect.)
