Freakin Clueless!!!

Recommended Posts

Nope, definitely not the only one, it's good to hear that other people are stresing out, like me! I don't know what resort I want either, and because a main determining factor is the price my guests will have to pay, I have to keep waiting for rates to become released to even narrow it down. I have a list of about 6, but we want to visit our top 3choices in July, so we have some major research to do! Our top 3, at this point, are the 3 Dreams resorts, but we're open to pretty much anything! We like Dreams simply because we just visited Secrets Maroma in Mexico for a week, and were amazed at how great everything was, and Dreams is the same company.

Well things are looking up!! First thing I did was research and pick the resort... emailed the resort and booked the date :) Then I contacted TA Lindsay on here - she's the Canadian TA - she has been emailing me prices and options (for flights and which hotel room we want etc.) - once I figure that out and put the money down - the biggest stressors are gone I think :) Then the fun stuff starts!! This site and all the wonderful people and postings have helped me immensely!!

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one! I'm also feeling a little clueless and lost in this process. I'm pretty sure I want to have our wedding in the DR, but I'm still waiting on resort, wedding package, and travel info. I have emails out and I'm working with a TA, but no info yet.

What made you decide on one resort over another? Price? Coordinators? Packages? Has anyone had any particularly great or terrible experiences with any of these resorts and the planning process?

Dreamy, that sounds like great process! Sounds like things are falling into place. :0) What resort did you end up with?

We have pretty well narrowed down our selection to 3, and after our visit to these resorts in July, we will hopefully decide our final location, and get the ball really rolling.

I'm so glad to hear that there are tons of us out there still in the beginning stages of planning. so many people on this forum seem to already have sailed smoothly past all that stuff. haha..

I have a date and resort picked out. Now i'm at the "inquire about group rates" part. Possibly a weird question: do you have to pay for a TA? how does it all work? and how necessary is one? any experience where we can get the best deals?

Thanks in advance!

I have emailed a few TA's and I just don't know!! I know we want to go to the PPR - I have contacted someone there who directed me to a website - which also didn't help. I'm really frustrated and just feel dumb at this point!!!! I am not good at planning and usually do everything at the last minute.. but of course there is no way I would or even could plan a whole wedding at the last minute!! Any thoughts out there!!??!
I got married at PPR last November. if theres anything i can help you with let me know. you can pm me. And i see you got a TA, that's good because she can really help with your guests booking so you dont have to worry about that.

Hopefully I can help you out a little... I noticed we have the same wedding date! Good choice if I do say so myself:)

This is what I have done so far (which isn't a lot):

- Picked resort
- Got travel agent
- Chose wedding date with his help
- Budgeted out wedding expenses
- Decided on invitee list
- Chose wedding party and asked them to be in the wedding
- Create and update/change/tweaking (still) Wedding Website
- Designed, printed, cut, glued, tied, glued, printed my Save the Dates
- Booked my photographer who will do our engagement photos in June and will be flying down to do my wedding photos as well
- I am currently printing the last of our envelopes, getting international postage for a few and plan to send them all out by May 4th 2009 so they arrive exactly a year before the wedding

For the month of May I have planned to do so far:

- Buy rings
- Shop for wedding dress
- Block rooms for guests

I really hope this helps you, if it makes you feel any better I'm a PSYCHO planner, I got engaged over a year ago so I could take a year to look around and decide what I wanted to do... =)

I'm currently mid planning my best friends bridal shower and have been planning her Bachelorette weekend in Vegas for the last 6 months. I'm so overloaded at the moment I think I'm losing it a little more every day muscle.gif

First I just wanted to say, McToasy, that usually when you use a TA they have certain companies and resorts that they promote who pays them when they book someones trip. For this reason, you might pay a little more than if you booked on your own but you do have the convenience of someone else worrying about your problems!!! And someone for your family to bug! Also, once you talk to a TA I don't think you're obligated to use their services.

As far as the process, I think it's a little different for everyone depending on your situation. I'm in the same boat as taratoons that I have to wait for prices THEN pick a resort. It really sucks because my family is driving me nuts about getting this going! If only they knew! I did talk to a couple TAs and they said I'm safe in telling people the week that we want to travel. It is hard because every plan is dependent upon another and the biggest ones are the ones that are most difficult and take the longest but the ones that you need to plan first!

Sounds like you got started so keep up the good work!
