Our Disney Engagement: Paul & Lisa

Recommended Posts

Paul & I were on our trip to Orlando, Florida in May 2008. We had planned out our whole trip beforehand knowing which day we'd be at which park and so on.

On Tuesday May 8th we were spending the day at Animal Kingdom (which by the way is STUNNING!). It took us a while to figure out how we wanted to spend our day but after looking at the map and schedule we decided to get the Character Meet & Greet out the of way bright and early hoping to avoid any long lines later in the day.

First up was Goofy. We waited in line to have our photo taken and we were getting fairly close and Paul excused himself to use the washroom. He came back with no problems and I was still waiting in line. A few more minutes go by and he decides to use the washroom again. I am now in panic mode since we're about 2 people away from the front of the line and I hate being disorganized. He made it back perfectly fine and our photo was taken with no problems.

I wanted to take my photo next with Minnie but Paul insisted we see Mickey first since the line was shorter. We waited in line for about a half hour and finally made it up to the front of the line. I got all excited (I'm a huge Mickey & Minnie fan) and got my hug from Mickey first. We had our photo taken and I went to leave the gazebo but Mickey's "handler" stopped and said she had a special surprise. She then announced "Guests we have a special surprise today for this lady" and she smiled and gave Paul the ring box. A little bit of confusion happened since Paul thought Mickey was going to actually propose but once he realized he wasn't he got down on one knee and proposed in front of the whole crowd of people!! I was shocked and of course said YES!! The crowd clapped and as we walked away Mickey's handler announced throughout the whole line that we had just gotten engaged with Mickey Mouse.

Paul set the whole thing up in a matter of minutes when he had to use the "washroom" while I was waiting in line with Goofy. He found a handler, trusted her enough to tell her what was happening and let her hold onto the ring. I couldn't have asked for a more fun and relaxed proposal that completely suits our personalities.

The best part about it (other than the gorgeous ring and being engaged of course) was that the whole thing was caught on camera! We had purchased a professional photography package so the photographer snapped about 30 pictures of the proposal and I'm so thankful that I have those memories to keep.
