Yeah, it's just one less thing to do when we get back. We will go to the JP and make it as informal as possible. We don't want it to be too personal since Mexico will be our "REAL" wedding day!

When are you getting married?

I am going to be the 'other' here and tell you all we are doing the legal thing in Mexico. I just could not keep a secret like that from my family... it would ruin everything for me and in the back of my mind even though I would consider the symbolic day my wedding/anniversary day... the day we went to the judge here would always be nagging at me.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why you all are doing it and we even considered it, but being from Canada I don't think the process is that diffucult and especially being from Quebec... no one here changes their names anyway. So it's just a matter of translating the certificate and being registered with the Governement. Takes a couple months and a couple hundred dollars. Going to the courthouse isn't free... so no matter how you look at it there is an added cost any route you go.

Good luck and congrats to everyone!

We're having a Catholic Ceremony (spiritual ceremony) in Mexico and our legal ceremony after we get back from Mexico. We're getting back on October 29th and we're going to the County Clerk's office in Brooklyn on October 30th to make it official here in the US. It's MUCH cheaper and easier to do the legal ceremony here. Now... I'm trying to convince my FI that we should have a wine & cheese reception on the 30th to celebrate our legal marriage ; )

we're making it legal before we leave, too. the anniversary of the day we met is about a week before the wedding, so we might select that day!

we decided to do it this way out of ease. with just doing a symbolic ceremony in mexico, we get to skip a lot of the legal red tape: translating birth certificates and divorce decrees into spanish, the blood tests and extra stress and fees!

i'm just trying to decide which day we'll want to celebrate as our anniversary - maybe both?!

Good call on Vegas KittenHeart wink.gif

We are getting "Legally Not Single" this weekend in Vegas!! Wooohoooooo!!! We are still emphasizing that Mexico is our real wedding. Anyone that says any wedding words (bride, groom, wedding marriage, etc.) while we are in Vegas has to take a shot - bwahahaha :o)
