Indigo Hotel just opened in Pozos de Santa. It is not isolated, lots of restaurants and shops. If not, stick to the Hampton Inn 3 min from the airport. Are you looking for something with more character? B&B? I have some suggestions but let me know if you just want a place to spend the nite and leave the next morning. I also have some great suggestions for dinner in San Jose.

Glad to help.

Hello,

I can recommend the Martino, it is only about 15 min or less from the airport and is a nice European style hotel.

They have a great restaurant and pool, and right across the street is a zoo.

It's perfect if you are flying out the next day or getting in late. We stayed there last year and our guests will be staying the first night there so we can all drive/fly to the wedding location the next morning. Most of the flights from the U.S get in late, so having somewhere close to the airport is good, especially if you are flying a small plane to another part of the country.

We're arrive at 3:15 PM and departing the next morning at 7:15 AM - so we'd have to be at the airport by 5 AM I think. Normally, I'd just stay at the Hampton Inn, but we have many hours afternoon/evening on the last day, and it seems like it would be nice to stay somewhere slightly more interesting or at least w/a restaurant or restaurant near by.

Indigo Hotel looks cool, but it is in Santa Ana? I looked into Beacon Escazu too - new and slightly cheaper, but I'm assuming either of these hotels will be a 1/2 hour taxi from the airport? Do you know?

Would Doubletree Cariari Hilton be nicer experience than Hampton Inn? It is cheaper and supposedly 10 minutes from airport.

I also looked at Casa Bella Rita (Santa Ana) but not sure how I feel about B&B, and it is just as far away, Xandari (Alajuela), but it is pricey, and Pura Vida (Alajuela) but it is rustic. I'll take a look at Martino, thanks. Any other suggestions are welcome.

nylalany,

Stay away from the DTree Cariari, it's a has been hotel, was the hot thing in the 80's. You are right about the Hampton, not much to do right there except Denny's and another restaurant.

From SantaAna, Escazu at 5 am you are about 15min-20min at the most from the airport.

Indigo is in a cluster of shopping centers on both sides of the strip. Depending on the day(weekend), there will be bars (Living and Utopia) open and a chance to dance. Lots of restaurants. Nearby is the Comfort Inn but sort of away from the strip (at the beginning of it across a small bridge) you would not be able to walk to anything except Pizza Hut, Antojitos (OK) and Cebollinos (mex food completely over priced).
