What to put in flower girl pail

I am in love with the flower girl pail idea. I am not sure what to put in it for her to throw. I have heard sand, which is bad if it is windy, shells, but they could hurt (plus I would have to collect them while there), and flowers, but I don't really want to spend the money on petals (I was told I can't do fake). Any suggestions? What are you all doing?

I'm doing a flowergirl pail too & I was thinking of paper petals, ecofetti, or those freeze-dried petals (from flyboy naturals or similar).

I think flowers work the best, but if it's money you are concerned about, then use fake ones.

I really want flower petals, but was concerned about the price too...and I know the fake ones are off limits.

My florist charged me $30 for 4 cups of petals. I also found 10 cups for $17.90 online.

I know you are concerned about cost. If you want fresh, order these from Fresh Roses and Wholesale DIY Wedding Flowers - 2G Roses and carry them in your carryon and put in the fridge.
