Looking at new vehicles

Some of those are quite massive.....are you wanting something really big? If not, you may want to check out Infiniti or Acura. Also, if you want a more "green" option check out the Subaru pzev Forester. It basically recycles its own exhaust and produces no emissions.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything domestic right now. Besides the build quality and resale value often being lower, it also just seems a bit scary with how much trouble the car companies are in lately. If they stop getting bail-outs, you may end up having a car with no dealership support. Apparently the US government will cover warranties, but I'd rather just avoid the whole situation.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We might be going to Edmonton this weekend to go look and maybe test drive vehicles. We don't have many dealships here... just your basic Ford and Chev places. I definitely need something with lots of room (especially when Mark is using the truck for work and sled trips and I need something with space) and something we will love.

And it'll will be a new vehicle since the prices are a pretty good, some of the used ones I find are still somewhat up there in price with higher kms and whatnot especially for the types of vehicles we are looking at.

We won't buy just yet, just looking... But it'll be within the year... then at least we won't have to spend $$$ and Mark spend his time fixing it when something finally craps out.

I know the US vehicle situation is bad, but I don't think Canada is as bad (yet). But I shouldn't be totally scared to buy a new vehicle. I don't think anyway.

Finance charges are based more on credit than new vs. used. FI used to work at a Toyota dealership and people get pretty much the same rate on a new vs. used car. I'd recommend getting a used car that's just come in off a 2 year lease. Since maintenance is included on most of the vehicles you're looking at they are very well maintained and the $5-15000 price difference will absolutely not be made up in the difference in financing. Even at a high rate, say 15% you would end up paying less for the used car. Here's a real world example. MSRP is from Edmunds.com

New 2009 Lexus 400h Base model- $42,080 MSRP x 7.31% finance charge (current national rate) on a 48 month term loan. Monthly payment: $1013.72

2006 Lexus 400h AWD- $26,714 x 10.31% finance charge on a 48 month term loan. Monthly payment: $681.52

So while you'd pay slightly more to finance it, the original price difference is so much, it doesn't even compare.

Well, the winner is.... the Murano. Financing at 1.9% isn't bad either. We re going for the LE so it will be about 51,000-53,000 with taxes and freight (wrote it down somewheres what the actually total was).

We almost went for BMW X6... but we'd be unbelievable tight with money after those payments... maybe once the our truck is paid...lol.

So joy now we will have 2 vehicle payments.... woo hoo.
