Google is NOT my friend - I keep finding better places

Recommended Posts

Long story short - so we were doing a Tahoe wedding but after I started contacting venues, all the places I thought about were already booking up for Summer 2010. I don't have an opportunity to go to Tahoe and scout any locations until this fall which means slim pickings.

So - let's get married where he proposed! It's still a destination for us as we live in Cincinnati and it's five and a half hours to where he proposed in Nashville.

I did a simple google search and started an excel spreadsheet of places that interested me. Then I started whittling it down. I spoke to a few places and started planning in my head. You know how it is OCD ladies, that's everything I would think about. Then I'd find a website with some more links and go "oh that place looks even more AWESOME!"

I'm scared to fire up the computer and find yet another beautiful place.

Tell me that this has happened to you?!?

That is still happening with me. I am planning on a Punta Cana wedding, but I keep finding places all over the caribbean. My fiancee had the brilliant idea of thinking how far would a person really be willing to travel for our weddding. After asking, it turns out that many dont want a 10 hr flight to Cabo san lucas, soo we stuck as close as possible to the US. I say book as fast as possible so that you dont find that other place, that looks just as good and then you are stuck with the horrible question of where should I hold my wedding. =).

This definately happened to me! At first we wanted to get married in Florida, where he proposed, then we switched to Gatlinburg. After our scouting trip in Gatlinburg, I realized that my heart was dead set on a beach wedding. It just didn't feel right.

When you find the right place, you will know it. Originally I had dreamed of a carribean wedding, but chose Florida because of its affordability and what it meant to my Fiance and I.

I spent hours and hours online before i got the ring- I thought i had it narrowed down, then got the ring and had to book and totally starting having second thoughts and changing my mind. I hate too many options- i get confused and overwhelmed (that makes me sound stupid- i'm not btw) i just like simple.

so as soon as i booked, i stopped looking (i still look at reviews and pictures on this site, but that's it!) I can't take the stress! LOL

anyways- i'm sure whatever venue you choose will be lovely! as long as the Groom is there it will be great!

We jumped all over the place when we were first deciding on a location for our DW. We definitely wanted to do a DW and thought about various places in the Caribbean that we had not been before. But then, we thought, if we do it in the Caribbean, it'll just feel like another vacation for us since we go there at least 1-2 times a year and we wanted something different.

So we started considering Hawaii. It was a place both of our parents wanted to go to and we love tropical places, but then as we started planning, we realized once again, that because it's tropical and beachy, it would seem more like a vacation than a wedding celebration.

Lastly, we thought about Europe. FH has never been and I was there as a child and some time in college, so we started looking around all over the various countries in Europe. We looked into villas in Spain, Portugal, and Italy as well as castles in England and chateaus in France. Going by picture alone, we loved the architecture of the chateaus in France and felt that it would give us the look and feel of the type of wedding we were going for so that's how we ended up with Chateau de Challain. FH saw the pictures and knew that that's where he wanted to get married.

So, keep searching until you find a place that touches you. I'm compulsive when it comes to searching and researching a place that I too have to put together a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. I literally had one on all 5 countries that we had picked out in Europe, the locations, the price, the rooms available, distance from major city, etc.

Another way we ended up finding a place was, I picked my top 10-15 choices and let FH pick out the top 5 he liked from them and then we discussed which ones we both liked the most.
