We had our wedding at 4:30 and it was hot as he**. The guys sweat through their shirts under their suit coats. I was sweating under my dress. It was warm but it is DR so it is to be expected. Our reception was equally as hot. We were SWEATING. Hence people jumping in the pool.

Our timing was a little different because we didn't want a gap between cocktail hour and dinner. You can't start your dinner at the pool before 7:00 and it can only go until 10.

This was our schedule

4:30-5:00 ceremony

5:00-5:30 group photos

5:30-6:45 cocktail

7-10 reception

And ABSOLUTELY bring all of your documents, confirmations and detials with you. This really helped me because they or my TA screwed up our room category upgrade and we only got the correct room because I had my confirmation.

BB,

Is your dress fairly thick? Mine is, and I *know* I'm going to be dying that day, but I couldn't resist the gown you know? I mean, it was THE gown. lol. I thought 4pm would still be bad, but I was hoping that we'd have some kind of wind going on. Is that a futile hope?

I think our ceremony will take about 45 minutes, maybe even an hour. i'm planning on incorporating a Thai tradition or two, plus we're signing a wedding cert during it similar to when people do the legal ceremony. I also want a prayer moment in there, etc. I'm wondering if I will be able to stand in that heat, in that gown, for that long PLUS take pictures....

I was thinking that we'd have the ceremony at 4, plan it lasting an hour, then have the cocktail hour at say 5:30, so people can go to their rooms and freshen up or soak up a/c or whatever if they need to. We're going to be taking pics during that time, and maybe even into the cocktail hour. Then dinner is to start 7 poolside.

Another thought, during June, were bugs a problem at the beach? We're thinking of having the cocktail hour at the beach, but if the bugs are a problem, we may have to move it. Ana hasn't really given us any other location options for that particular event. Maybe we can do it near the lobby or in the area where there are those covered pathways?

You can see in my pics that my dress wasn't to big. It did have some toole but not much. There could be a breeze depends on the weather. We did not have any breeze.

Mercy discouraged having people go back to their rooms because people come back late, fall asleep, etc. You only have from 7-10 so you don't want people to be late.

If you read a few posts ago I covered the bugs.

Has anyone ever gotten the additional entertainment. The cigar roller, dominican dancers, etc.? I am already getting a band for the cocktail hour but I am curious to whether it would be worth it to get extra entertainment for the reception on top of the DJ.

Thanks so much!smile03.gif

Oh, I forgot to add, is there somewhere to get married thats not on the sand. I know that sounds odd especially since we are doing a destination wedding but I am just curious. I can't download documents, if anyone has any information I would appreciate it SOOO much! Thanks so much this forum is going to make my life so much easier.

BB- sorry for asking about something you already covered in your review. Was posting from my cell phone and didn't have pictures loaded, or the past pages. I can see now in the picture that your dress isn't big. Mine isn't either, but it's silk and heavy. I don't know WTF I was thinking. lmao

FMB- There is a gazebo option, I'm not sure if there is a limit on the size of the party, maybe like 25? there's also a pier that goes out onto the water I believe. I think beach is probably more popular. I know in Mexico, you can also have your reception in the lobby area and there's an area that is along the covered pathways near the lobby that people opt for. Don't know if it can be done in the DR or not. I'm tempted to ask about it for our cocktail hour, but I think people will be annoyed at having to move so far, then come back poolside for the reception.
