I find it highly unlikely that falling 2 stories would give you brain damage....unless maybe if he dove off....

I really feel for this mans family - they will likely never know what happened that night.
Meh, he could have just been incredibly drunk and thus his body didn't respond fast enough when he fell and he wasn't prepared for it. It's definately really, really sad... but it's getting blown way out of proportion. I'm sorry, I'm not going to tell people to avoid Mexico because 28ish Canadian's have died in Mexico in the last decade! It's not like it's a mass slaughtering! Just be careful... that's it!

I know, I have been to Mexico, Cuba, DR, and have never been afraid or uneasy. For people that haven't been to Mexico they see the news reports and suddenly become scared.

The media is unbelievable, the reports last night were crazy. 28 Canadians since 1994 killed. I think there are more than that in Calgary in a year!

For the Calgary girls - so happy that spring is finally here!!

Thanks for your posts.

Rita

A statistic or fact can prove whatever people want it to prove. The guests can look at it like they should be afriad that 28 Canadians died in Mexico, but the thing to point out is this---- that's 28 people in 13 years in the entire country---- I'd say that's not too bad considering how ignorant people are about being safety-conscience when they travel....

Go to your government agency that handles foreign travel website and look for safety recommendations and give that to the guests who are truly concerned. Also, you can probably find something on the Mexican government website addressing crime rates in various parts of Mexico. In fact, I know I have that document at home.

Now, I didn't see the report... obviously, but is it 28 people from Calgary? If that were the case, then I'd sort of understand... I mean, the ratio of how many people go there with how many people die... it might be interesting. I still wouldn't be concerned about traveling... as long as you are safe.

This is awful... and I'm sorry to everyone I'm about to offend... by I've heard many people that are afraid of being raped or something like that. I'm sorry, but you get what you ask for. If you are completely drunk, you know it's not necessarily the safest place for tourists, and you decided to wear your two year old's outfit which barely covers the censor bar areas... what do you think could possibly happen. I think you might get a LITTLE more attention than you ask for. Given, nobody asks for something awful to happen to them, but use your brain! Seriously!

As a Canadian Gal I can say the media is really blowing this out of proportion. Like always! Honestly, how do we know this guy didnt fall off the second floor? I know his family claims he was never on the second floor, but really, how do they know what he was doing while he was away? Also the young guy from woodbridge, he was out at a club in town at night. Its horrible what happened, but they always tell people to be careful about going out at night in a forgiegn country.

I would tell your guests that hundreds of thousands of people travel the mexico every year and they all have a great time, unfortunately people sometimes get killed, but this can happen anywhere! Would your guests be scared to go to the USA? Because I bet more Canadians die there than in Mexico.

I just read this and wow, I am in total shock. Like honestly I have never been so shocked by something written by a woman on a message board.
NO ONE I repeat NO ONE asks to be raped. Walking down the street fully dressed or half naked doesnt matter. No one has a right to take advantage of another human being like that.

No, 28 in CANADA! Umm ya, we're the second largest country in the world... there are a hell of a lot of us, 28 is a pretty small percent! It sucks, but it happens!

While I think that girls that dress with little left to the imagination, it really pains me to hear people say they deserve it. Its an experience that hits a little close home for people that are around me. I don't care if someone is a prostitute... no one deserves to get raped! Yes, I think they call way more attention to themselves and should be (for this reason) more aware of their surroundings, and yes this is true no matter where in the world you are, but I don't think anyone deserves it.

Oh gosh! I'm sorry ladies. I would never say that the DESERVE to get raped. Oh gosh no. That's awful. I'm just saying, it's much more likely and I think people need to wake up and realize that. I actually had a good friend of mine get rapped in Cancun. She didn't deserve it (as nobody does)... it's just sometimes people don't use their best judgement. Again... NEVER does ANYONE deserve it nor should it EVER be acceptable in ANYWAY. I just think if there is something one can do to decrease the possibility... they should.
