All brides from the EU, IMPORTANT PLS READ!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi to all those brides from the European union who like ourselves are getting married soon, I was on the Riu wedding website & it seems they have changed their requirements for documents relating to our wedding, see below:

NOTE: Europeans citizens getting legally married in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica will need to get an Apostille. Riu hotel is not responsable of this legal procedure. However, in case that you require the on-site wedding coordinator´s assistence, you will need to to cover the fees of the paperwork and delivery.

WTF!!!!huh.gif? After all this time it seems now we have to have said document otherwise our wedding wont be legal?! This is what I assume & I was even speaking to Chandlyn's assistant Nekeisha & she assured me everything was ok & this was 2 weeks ago!? If anyone has any information about this I would be so delighted to have this worry off my shoulders, especially as we're flying out a week from next Tuesday. Before anyone asks I have emailed her to find out but imagine I wont get a reply until tomorrow or over the weekend.

For those of you US brides, this doesn't apply, only to us living in the EU. God could really do without this stress at this late stage! shitfan.gif

Sarah,

Can you please tell me where on the site you saw this note?

I have searched everywhere but I couldnt find it. I have my own wedding planner in NL that is arranging my documents and legalisations, I called here straight away, as soon as I saw your thread. She is going to find out what the matter is with this apostille. She told me that she knows what it is, but she also told me that it is not required for getting married in Jamaica. And if they would suddenly change pollicies, they would have informed here. Now I'm always very carefull, so I asked here to double check, and she will get back to me as soon as she knows anything.

She also told me not to worry at this point, if Chandlyn allready approved all your documents taht you have send, that where required at first, that should be enough. But if they really changed policy, she will find out.

I will get back to you guys as soon as I know anything.

If you here from Chandlyn too, let us know...

But for know just stay calm ladies... Breath 1....2....3 ...pffffff shitfan.gif

I suspect this is what is included in the price. When you get the free package you have to pay $350 for fees and minister etc, I think this is where the cost of the apostile or use of wedding co-ordinator is taken from. As Jes says, if they've already taken our first documents then changed the process they should have notified us

further down their FAQs:

What is an Apostille document, why do I need it and where can I get it?

The Apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature of the public official who has signed the document. An apostille certificate confirms the person who signed a document has the authority to do so and that the document should therefore be recognized as legal without further evidence in another member state of the Hague Convention.

The Apostille must be required in the State where the document was made. The Foreign offices of each state and country can provide the apostille.

Hi Claire & Jess

I haven't heard anything from Chandlyn at this point but I'm gonna be ringing her about 2pm this afternoon, it will be 9am there, I can only assume this applies to brides looking to book weddings for say next year, am sure she would have told me 2 weeks ago when she phoned if this was necessary. I think this 'Apostille' is verifying the solicitor who notarized our docs that they are genuine, and as she has our copies since last summer she won't need this.

Will let you know as soon as possible once I hear anything!!

Breathe, stay calm, I know its not easy!!!
