Dazzling Details vs. US Wedding Coordinator

Recommended Posts

We are using Dazzling Details and love them!!! I think the best thing to do is get a proposal from Kristin and if it is in your budget, and if it is then GO FOR IT. They are completely worth every penny. Michelle and Kristin know so much about PV, and it would be so hard for a US coordinator to attain their knowledge. If you have a question, they answer it, and you can feel confident that they know what they are talking about.

I contacted DD but they are booked for my date already in 2010. Anyone have any other suggestions? I've emailed Prisar, so I'll hopefully meet with them. How about Vows or Vallarta Weddings or EM Vallarta? Thanks so much for your feedback!

I tried a search for Vallarta Weddings and Em Vallarta but since they both have Vallarta in their names I got hundreds of possible hits. :)

I am also working with Hector and Pris from Prisar Vallarta, and I am very happy with their services, advice, quoting. I am Mexican and I feel very confident we are paying for the fair and lower price we can. Also the next day of the wedding they will give you the balance of what they have paid with invoices/notes from vendors.

Sometimes the best thing is to go with your gut, even for the sake of peace of mind. If your home wedding coordinator is really good and organized, that alone can be priceless.

With travel costs lower now, it can even end up saving you money if you're from a part of the country where costs are lower. Remember that wedding coordinators in big destinations build in the price of their convenience and being so close by, when someone with lots of experience (doesn't matter where) could be less expensive and really have your back, instead of being so entrenched with the vendors that you feel like you've been hustled.

Good luck with everything!

Because I'm a vendor here, I was staying away from the conversation ... but, stepping aside from that whole thing for a second, I do think there is a point that an outside coordinator is outside of the whole scene and there could be a possible plus to that. But, having worked both in the states and here, I do think that working in Mexico is a WHOLE other animal. If your coordinator has worked in Mexico before and understands the business culture here AND speaks Spanish, then I think it might not be a bad deal.

BUT, if your coordinator has never worked in Mexico before and does not speak Spanish, I think you are far better off to go with a coordinator in-town. Business here does not work like it does in N.A. and you really need to understand the culture in order to a) get things done on time and B) get the best prices and c) get the best vendors. Not all vendors are created equal! Some you pay a little more for because they are ON TIME (that's HUGE here - can't emphasize HUGE enough wink.gif and because the quality of their work far outshines their competition. And others charge WAAAY more than they should when your coordinator will be able to direct you to someone who is just as good but less expensive.

So, that's just my two pesos about that wink.gif.

Hello. I completely agree with the person from Mishka Designs. It has taken my husband and I the better part of a year to fully comprehend how businesses work in Mexico (and I have formal business training AND my husband is Mexican!). Working in Mexico is indeed a whole other animal!! Having a coordinator with experience in Mexico and a working knowledge of Spanish can make things a little smoother for everyone. Happy to help. :-)

Hi Chikia,

I'm working with a Travel Agent that specializes in Destination Weddings, but then working with the WC at my resort with her assistance. If your local WC hasn't worked with Outside US locations, I'd be concerned with her ability to get things done the way someone with a comfort zone at your locale. Read through the posts on here and listen to the ladies who are getting married or have gotten married in PV - they can share the most experience. IMHO, I wouldn't want to have someone coordinate my wedding that's never done a wedding in my location.

Good Luck!

I met with both Dazzling Details and Prisar Weddings. Both proposals were similar in price and I had a really hard time deciding between the two. I finally made the decision based on the location I chose and who had recommended it to me. That would be Dazzling Details. They book up really fast and only do one wedding per weekend. I had to move the date back a weekend to secure her for May 2010.

But with regards to Prisar since DD is already booked, I was really impressed with Pricilla and Hector. They picked us up from our hotel and took us to tour several villas in both Nueva Vallarta and Mislamoya (opposite sides of Vallarta) and even made us a reservation at a great place for dinner. She is Spanish and her English is not perfect but it is pretty darn close. We had no problems communicating. She had great ideas and was very open with me about vendors she suggested and ways to "trim the budget but keep a wow factor". From what I gathered from the discussions, she will allow you be to more hands on if you would like or has the ability to coordinate the whole event on your behalf.

The only fair way I could think to chose was based on the villa I decided suited our needs best and who had recommended it to me. They are both great coordinators and I got along very well with both. My suggestion would be to at least speak on the phone with a few of the coordinators you consider if you don't have the option of meeting them in person.
