Did anyone get married 2 years after proposal???

Recommended Posts

We got engaged August of 2006....wedding date, June this year. So nearly 3 years for us!! It was a little annoying when people wanted to know why we were waiting so long. For us, it was because we wanted to be done with school before our wedding. I have another friend getting married this year and they scheduled their wedding for the weekend after their semester starts back up! I wouldn't be able to stand that!!!

I proposed to Jeremy Cinco de Mayo 2008 and we are getting married Cinco de Mayo 2010. We didn't tell a bunch of people, because I hadn't received my E-ring yet and we didn't want to explain to everybody as to why it was so far away. But once I got my ring we had to start telling people. When they asked we simply said...."we are paying cash for everything and want to be able to afford what we want." Left it at that. People seemed to understand and stopped asking the questions.

We got engaged in Feb of 2007, and are getting married in July 2009. I've really enjoyed taking our time and with a destination wedding, it has been nice to have extra time (although we didn't decide on the destination until Oct of 200cool.gif. Good luck and enjoy your time as an engaged couple...you will be married before you know it!

we will have 2 years and 10 days. :)

like others, it was to be able to save the money since we are paying for everything ourselves. my fiance has been out of work on disability (very limited income) and going to school as well. it just made sense for us. it got so annoying with people's comments that i actually started saying, "if you'd like to pay for our wedding, we'd be happy to get married tomorrow." LOL, but then again, i'm a sarcastic b*tch and people would expect that from me. hehe

you could be more tactful tho haha, and since you have decided on a destination wedding, why not tell people that in today's economy you felt it was necessary to have a long engagement not only for your own financial situation, but in order to give your guests ample time to save the money to attend.

Wow, 16 years is a long time.

I have a hard time answering the how long have you been together question. Just because, we were friends with benefits for over a year or so before we became exclusive. And then one summer we began hanging out lots and I'd spend the night at his place more days out of the week than at home, and even though we didn't say we were dating, we were not with anyone else. At the end of that July, I went to Costa Rica for 15 days for a class I was taking in grad school, and my apartment was flooded while I was gone because there was a fire in the apartment two stories above mine. My FI was not technically my boyfriend then, but he wanted me to come live with him and he really helped me out while I was in Costa Rica. So when I got back we began living together and were exclusive. But we never had a first date or anything, no anniversary, no real day that marks the significance of us being an official couple. So my complicated answer is that we were together about 2-4 years before we got engaged.

I am just sneaking in under the 2 year mark. We got engaged Dec 2007 and are getting married Nov 2009. I really don't think it matters. Every couple has so many different reasons why a short and sweet engagement doesn't work for them. We wanted to get a house first, which we have now accomplished and we also wanted to give our families lots of notice for the destination wedding. IMO its totally acceptable. Whenever people make comments about my engagement or wedding I just tell them that when its their turn they can do it however they want. lol.
