Movie Buffs Thread

I'm always interested in hearing what people think of movies and what the last movie they saw was AND any recs for less commmonly known movies.

Last night we saw The Last House on the Left. Now, I have to say that I've never seen the original but I really want to. It was available ON Demand last month but I didn't have time. I read the synopsis on Wikipedia and although some aspects seem different from the remake the plot is the same. But I'd really love to see the original.

Anyway, I rather enjoyed the remake. I'm all about deviating from the stereotypical helpless, hysterical, tripping and falling victim leads. The whole parents take venege on the people who harmed their daughter angle was pretty cool. I didn't think it was as gorey and disgusting as some people have said.

Just went and saw this a few hours ago. I really liked it. I love scary movies though. My DH thought it was gory. But he doesn't love scary movies like me and hates gore. He said it was sad. I guess I see that too. Overall though I did like it. I'm going out with a friend on friday to see Slumdog Millionaire.

I just saw the Reader which was AMAZING! But I lovvvvvvvve the book too. I read the book long before it was to be a movie. But Kate Winslet did awesome. I also just saw Boy in the Striped Pajamas another book that was good and the movie was spot on. And the last one I saw was the Changeling which I also loved.

Guess I haven't seen any movies I hate lately! Hahaha...I love hearing suggestions on what to see though! I just rented Australia and Rachel Getting Married but haven't watched them yet. We shall see!

we just watched australia and rachel getting married and i wasn't really a fan of either. australia was really pretty to watch but it was so long and didn't have a very engaging story line.

rachel getting married was okay, i thought. anne hathaway was great but i don't know, the movie didn't really grab me.

we have gran torino to watch tonight so i'm excited for that!

I do want to see Rachel Getting Married but it's not something I'm DYING to see. The previews just made it seem, like you said Katrina, that it's an ok movie, but that it wouldn't really grab me.

This isn't a new movie, but I just saw August Rush and that was a really sweet movie. Another old movie that I just recently saw was Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was a funny movie. Lots of penis shots!

Jessica, you have to watch the original version of Last House on the Left. I was so gonna start a thread over the weekend titled 'Original vs Remakes' but got caught up in the remake (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) I was watching I totally forgot to. I haven't seen the remake yet of Last House on the Left, but I totally want to. My FI hates 'horror' movies, so I have to get a friend to go with me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE horror movies, especially the ones based on something that really happened.

For the horror movie fans the latest Friday the 13th was good. My FI is a HUGE horror fan so I have seen just about every horror movie. In fact, we went to NJ once just to meet the original cast of Night of the Living Dead.

We saw The Watchmen recently. FI really liked it, I thought it was just okay. Not horrible but I thought some of the acting was bad which was distracting from the action stuff.

I also loved the Reader, haven't read the book though.

Just came back from seeing Slumdog Millionaire. I LOVED it. I thought it was amazingly done and eye opening. I didn't like the people sitting behind me making fun of it. But it happens. Some movies I don't agree with winning so many Oscars. But this movie I think deserved every one. And that little boy is ADORABLE. I want to go to India and get him! Hahaha.

I saw Friday the 13th and didn't care for it personally. I was diappointed.

I do want to see Slumdog Millionaire but it will probably be something I wait until the dvd release to see. Not because I don't think it would be worth the movie price, but it's not the type of movie I would typically go to the theater for. Usually I only go see horror movies in the theater.

We just watched Tropic Thunder, and while I wasn't really interested in seeing the movie, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Ben Stiller's movies have never been the top of my "to see" list in the past, but I love Robert Downey Jr.

We also tried to watch War Inc. with John Cusack...it was, well, different, for lack of a better word. I wasn't able to finish watching it, which is odd because I LOVE John Cusack. But this was just too out there for my liking.

Saw Death Race land Taken last week and really liked them both. Great action, and Taken is just a really smart story.

Can you tell I'm trying to get caught up on my movies? Too many come out at the same time, it's impossible to see them all.
